ScRSG
What diagrams of catering cars have been produced by Bachmann or Hornby?
Blackthorn
I think Hornby produced a MK 1 restaurant car and a 12 wheel dining car (ex-Dapol). Possibly others, I'm sorry I don't know what diagram numbers they would have been. Mark.
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted October 8, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Using running numbers and comparing to Parkins bible... Mainline / Replica : RB Diagram 24 Bachmann : RMB Diagram 99 Bachmann RBR Diagram 23 Hornby : RMB Diagram 99 though theyve produced Diagram 97 running numbers too., but i’d question this coaches accuracy due to age. Lima: RB diagram 24 but it could be anything. Bachmann also reproduced the Auto Buffet W25189 in the Cambrian Coast Express set. Still several varieties possible to produce, though a new 24 would be favourite, i’d prefer to see others myself... an Anthracite car, Diag 700/702 or Griddle car Diag 30/31 or more likely the only missing mass produced link is an RKB Diag 25, that no one has so far touched. Hornby could do a Micro buffet using the BSO. Edited October 8, 2018 by adb968008

Didnt Bachmann reproduce the Auto Buffet in the Cambrian Coast Express set ? Hornby could do a Micro buffet using the BSO. The Bachmann diagram 23 is actually the original Restaurant Unclassified. The RBR had a buffet counter installed along with two windows and a door on the kitchen side filled in. Bachmann make both variations of roof (with and without water tanks) but the version with water tanks should have a 4 ft window instead of a 3 ft just to the right of half way on the corridor side. Seeing as the majority of trains by the 1980s ran with either a diagram 24 or diagram 99 I am not surprised that the choice is so limited. A Bachmann diagram 24 would be nice but I fear it would mean the end of production for the diagram 23. I have had the Comet sides to make a diagram 25 and diagram 17 Restaurant First (later RBK) for about 4 years. One day I will get around to making them. RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted October 8, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Diagram 25 made it through to 1989, in Intercity and White roof charter liveries too. So that gives 7 livery variations (Maroon, Green, Blue/Grey, Departmental Olive, Intercity, Intercity Exec, and Intercity Charter), plus Pullman & Crimson/cream in preservation, 3 regions (E, M and S), i am intrigued by 1513 allocated to Craigentinny in 1987, especially as several books state it wasnt Intercity and one described it as Scotrail, though ive only seen it Blue/Grey. To me an RKB is viable as an alternative to a repeat tooling. Edited October 8, 2018 by adb968008

That'll be like this one then? http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/uploads/monthly_02_2016/post-7138-0-91199000-1455222454.jpg%C2%A0 Phil Edited October 8, 2018 by Phil Bullock

RBR as below: 1513 was part of the stock based at Falkirk from 1987 which was on loan to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society for their railtours, although officially it was part of the Inter City Charter fleet. The diagram 25 RKB were in regular use on the West Coast and East Coast Main Lines in the 1970s, until the HSTs arrived, being progressively withdrawn until only twelve remained in 1983 and only eight left by 1985. Even so there was a regular Milton Keynes - Penzance Mk3 Pullman working on a Summer Saturday in 1987 with a diagram 25 so they certainly got around.
