RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted October 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2018 (edited) Hi all, I am making good progress with my 7mm scale light railway so thoughts are turning to havving a go at my first 7mm loco kit. Many light railways used 060 tender engines and as nothing suitable is available RTR this looks like the way to go. Lack of outside mmotion will help simplify construction. I am looking for help choosing. Id be really grateful to hear from anyone who has built any of the following as to their ease of construction, completeness, motor and wheel choice etc. I am experienced building rolling stock kits in oo and o but not in loco construction. SR Stirling 01 (SER kits) SECR C Class (Javelin models) Ilfracombe Goods (Laurie Griffin) LNWR Webb (Mercian LNW6) Edit/bump I have had some good feedback on all but the Ilfracombe Goods. Hoping this might prompt a comment on that one Thanks in anticipation Edited October 27, 2018 by colin penfold

SR Stirling 01 (SER kits) SECR C Class (Javelin models) Ilfracombe Goods (Laurie Griffin) LNWR Webb (Mercian LNW6) Thanks in anticipation Hi Colin, I'm currently building a SER Kits 'O' Class, albeit to Scale 7 standards., which has necessitated me scratch building some parts of the kit, notably the locomotive main-frames. However, concerning the etches I have used, they are well designed, and fold up easily, where necessary. The written instructions are easy to understand, and should you encounter any problems, the proprietor of SER Kits, Dan Garrett is very helpful at offering advice and suggestions if difficulties are encountered. Wheels and motor have to be purchased separately, but Dan points you in the right direction as to what is required. I'm so pleased with the kit, that I am shortly to place an order for another 'O' Class 0-6-0 and an 'A' Class 4-4-0. I hope this information is of some help to you in making a decision. Dave Cheers Dave thats exactly the sort of feedback I was hoping for to help me make my choice. The o1 was used on the KESR so prototype-wise it's a top option.
