This was the motley crew who turned up for a most enjoyable day out.

The highlight was the steady disintegration, in front of our very eyes, of the Captain's NR issue boots (can be seen in the picture above...more pictures from others will surely follow!) A trail of bits followed him wherever he walked.

The very fetching replacement foot wear was purchased in a nearby garden centre.

it looks like a great choice of venue, and lots of happy faces. Any chance of a list of names for the opening shot, John? I think I know at least 5 from that pic, but there are others whose identity is shrouded. Perhaps they prefer it that way!

The Captain was in his usual form and it was a splendid day out.

I'll leave that to CK Ian. He has a similar photo to put up. His RMweb knowledge and tech savvy is better than mine!

His 'boot saga' was one of the highlights of the day! Fine local foods were enjoyed, including pies, tarts, sausage products and some fine local ales and ciders in the marquee at Toddington. Some fine and interesting chutneys were purchased for home consumption.

A couple shots of unexpected things!

What was a Southern (or maybe an LT) pot doing at Cheltenham?

Not quite ready for my shroud yet.Your namesake is the short hairy one with specs propping up the right hand side of the hut.

Pots are great things - especially when they explode! The Routemaster is what I still want to call an ER - their initial designation, before RML was substituted. To some of us, RML reflected the Leyland-engined prototype, RML3.

On a serious note, this showed just what can be achieved by like minded modellers with some excellent organisation.

It was enjoyed by young and old alike coming together for many reasons under the banner of Robs thread ( just an excuse really ! ). I was heartened and pleased to see a group of us, some of whom had never met other than on the forum, getting along for the purpose of enjoyment and I for one certainly had a great day out.

To that end would like to extend my thanks again to Tim and all of the other members that I met for the experience and I would certainly make another visit to the line in the future.

A BIG Thank You to one and all !

Glad you all had a good day out, especially as you were able to experience the splendour that is Bulleid Merchant Navy Pacific No. 6 (35006) in her second year of service on the GWSR since she steamed again for the first time since before arriving at Dai Woodham’s .

No.6 holds a number of distinctions: being the longest name of any of the Class; she was the only member of the class to be paired with the same tender throughout her working life (unfortunately not now in preservation) and also she was tbe only member of the class to only have been allocated to a single shed - Salisbury.

I declare a vested interest in No.6 as I am a shareholder in her.

Thanks Graham, you should have come as you could have arranged for young Mallard to get on the footplate. He was drooling at the sight of her all day and we all enjoyed a cracking ride behind her in the front coach leaving Broadway.

We were one of the first handful of cars to arrive in the Car Paring field at Toddington.

Having entered the site, and on crossing the bridge, we were wlcomed with this sight.

So a few more pics were taken whilst the trains were prepared for the days duties.

There was then a most enjoyable, 2 way journey. First to the racecourse, and then back to North to

Broadway. A bit busy (even a queue out of the door for the gents!)

Didn't picture that, but this was the Merchant Navy running round to take us back to Toddington, for

Food.

Where the Duck managed to embarras our fireman, with detailed question, which were not about cooking

lunch on a shevell. He was redirected to "an expert", where he gathered that it had a faux tender, being without

it's secret compartment. Obviously thats how the SR cheated and carried more than their fair share of water.

After enjoying some food Mrs MB and I decamped to Winchcombe, travelling behind the grey 47. Which

in my pics is either toofar away, and therefore anonymous, or running at an angle which suggests the cant

on the G+WR is excessive. (Didn't feel like that so its almost certainly my lack of skills).

There was then some "miscommunication" which led to Mrs MB departing behind the Merchant, as evidenced in

this pic

I could say its taken me 40+ years to get rid, (but won't cos I want feeding). But does seem to be an appropriate

point to break.

What a great day, and good company. Will share a few more soon.
