2019 Bachmann Branchline Catalogue Launched

Bachmann Europe Plc has today launched its 2019 Bachmann Branchline catalogue at a trade event held in London. The Bachmann Branchline catalogue covers British outline OO Scale models. The Bachmann Narrow Gauge range of British outline OO9 Scale models is also featured and this range sees the introduction of the first Diesel Locomotive model, alongside no fewer than four new wagons based on those used by the Royal Naval Armaments Depot.

New Tooling for the HKA Bogie Hopper Wagon has been developed, adding to the depth of modern wagons available from Bachmann Branchline. 2019 also sees the introduction of an increasing number of SOUND FITTED models – with SOUND FITTED versions of numerous models available alongside the standard non-sound versions in response to customer and consumer feedback. SOUND FITTED models will now feature the suffix ‘SF’ on their item number which will gradually replace the ‘DS’ suffix that was previously used.

NEW TOOLING – BAGULEY-DREWRY 70HP DIESEL LOCOMOTIVE

Baguley.jpg

These ‘modern’ diesel locomotives were built by Baguley-Drewry in the early 1980s for use on the network of Narrow Gauge lines operated by the RNAD (Royal Naval Armaments Depot), augmenting their existing fleet of elderly locomotives. They worked trains carrying explosives and other sundries between the standard gauge exchange sheds and the various hidden storage locations. As the MoD began to consolidate operations, various depots were closed and the redundant locomotives and rolling stock was either moved to other locations or sold off – this staggered programme of disposals has allowed a good number of these locomotives to enter preservation and many now operate far outside their original remit. Preservation has also allowed several new liveries and names to be carried by the surviving locomotives.

The Bachmann Narrow Gauge model will feature a 6 pin DCC decoder socket and NEM coupling pockets.

Prior to the investment in new Baguley-Drewry locomotives, the RNAD set about a programme of new rolling stock acquisitions. This programme included flat wagons, covered goods wagons (powder vans) and matching brake vans. The various types of wagons shared several features resulting in the fleet sharing a family resemblance. The most visible modification made under RNAD ownership was the addition of planked sides and sliding doors to the brake vans which were open-sided when built. The covered wagons have also seen modification with the removal of the sliding roof hatches in an attempt to make the vans watertight and therefore better suited to use as mobile storage units in their post-RNAD lives. Many of the wagons were sent straight for scrap once they became surplus to requirements, but luckily preservationists across the country took advantage of the favourable scrap prices at the time and a good number were brought back for private use. The relatively modern construction and strong chassis of these wagons has seen several examples used as the basis for conversion projects into wagon types not originally constructed including hopper wagons, open wagons and even tank wagons.

The Bachmann Narrow Gauge models will feature NEM coupling pockets, with examples of wagons in both RNAD and private use being modelled.

NEW TOOLING – HKA BOGIE HOPPER WAGON

In the early 1990s, National Power was developing plans to run its own coal trains to Drax Power Station. To realise its plans, National Power ordered five locomotives along with a batch of 85 hopper wagons. The first wagons were delivered in May 1995 and they soon received the TOPS code JMA. In 1998 National Power sold its rail operations to national freight operator EWS.

Whilst much of the fleet was stored out of service, in early-2009, those JMAs that were still in service were fitted with new bogies, receiving the TOPS code HKA. As is often the case with freight stock, the wagons were not repainted and many still carried National Power branding. In more recent years, DB Schenker, faced with a shortage of hopper wagons, began a programme to refurbish several of the JMAs that were previously in storage. New bogies have been fitted and the wagons subsequently reclassified as HKAs and several have now been outshopped in the vibrant DB Schenker red livery.

The real wagons can be defined as inners (without buffers) and outers (with buffers) and the Branchline models will be supplied with plug-in buffers in the accessory pack, allowing consumers to configure their

models to meet their own requirements.

Very happy to see another WCRC class 37. I can’t find the Collectors Club one anywhere for sensible money. Will be getting a few of these for renumbering for sure! And the BR Class 66 will be on the purchase list too. Good to see some WCRC coaches too finally.

C class in full SECR colours. Now that was a surprise after all the hear say of the diificulties doing it first time.

A second rake of SECR coloured birdcages too.

The OO-9 looks good too and an area they can do really well in.

No more Atlantics - that is a surprise.

In

Well that's anti climactic.

In many ways, it would have been better to state up-front that there would be no new tooling for 2019 - that would have prevented the endless speculation and the consequent disappointment.

I can't believe that this non-announcement has done anything to enhance the company's reputation - quite the opposite, in fact.

What were PR thinking?

Regards,

John Isherwood.

Looks like a generally sensible approach - though a continued lack of maroon Thompson's is odd to say the least!

But at least there are maroon Portholes to come in 2019.

Last I saw for the 1P on the availability list was 'On order' but I couldn't see a key as to what this actually means...

Somebody didn't read my note did they?

Similar guff will just get removed.

Well, I did - but are we not able to express anything less than positive, now?

I know that RMweb depends on the goodwill of the manufacturers, but an embargo on expressing disppointment?

Regards,

John Isherwood.

Wasn’t expecting to see the SECR C class back in lined green as I thought they’d said that was no longer workable due to the livery. A nice surprise.

Life in the old tooling of the 57xx/8750 yet, I thought that it had been all but withdrawn.

Another year of consolidation makes sense and I hope they get through their factory problems soon.

Thanks Andy for uploading all of this.

For me this is quite a reasonable announcement - I'll be in the market for the National Power wagons and Virgin MK2fs for sure. Beyond those yes it is quite restrained, but I'm also in the market for the DRS 20/3s and the 90s which will presumably arrive this year.

I noticed the SECR coaches with new running numbers (the first time I've ever predicted something correctly) I'll be buying these. The C class has to be great news for those who missed out the first time around.

I think they've taken a wise decision to try to close the lead times between announcement and delivery and slightly reading between the lines of Andy's piece I'd say there's a strong hint that we may get further announcements throughout the year.

Nothing to do with that. No-one else particularly needs to know if someone else is disappointed - it really isn't interesting to read and when I've asked for a reduction in guff some really don't think it applies to them. Server loads are high and posting such rubbish is, literally, making it slower for everyone else using the site.

I look forward to some more intelligent input than some posts I've already removed.

I wonder if 150115 is the original pale blue livery or more releases of the running man livery?

Nice to see some sensible relivery releases in bread and butter models.  My only disappointment is that the two new releases of the Compound are BR black - again.  I'd have thought that we should be due an LMS red one by now.

Poor to say the least. The 70hp Baguley is fine but most people who wanted one will have already purchased the 3d printed kit like I did.

Waiting to see my post deleted because my opinion isn't the same as a mod!

It is interesting that Hornby have decided the way back to profitability is through high investment and lots of new toolings, and with a very limited amount of re-liveries. While Bachmann seem to have decided the opposite, with a range with very little new tooling but mostly re-releases with new numbers.

I am mostly interested in 00 steam, and the new tooling that Bachmann have announced in the last 5 years probably isn't far off what Hornby have announced for this year alone!

Note: this is just an observation, and I have tried to not to make any judgements in the comment.

Understandable, given the outstanding releases they have to produce, and of course, that means there will still be new models coming out in 2019, but it IS something of a anti-climax. What it does do is show how bold Hornby's announcement was last week.
