How much should it cost then? Quite intrigued seeing as I've just had a practical lesson this very week in R&D/Production costs etc. I'd be interested to see your costings breakdown for completely new tooling of an RTR model.

Wee - ell, they said the 14 should have been the same price as an 08. So this one should be, um, let me see now, as much as half a 25 and half a 31...

With Heljan at the moment we'll have to roll a dice to see if it'll look like a 28 nevermind the price. Hope Hattons pay more attention than the 14.

Sod the cost - and frankly, sod the accuracy. It absolutely HAS to be better than the Hornby-Dublo one!

On order - one weathered example B)

My wallet is taking a hammering this year...no student loan to speak of to spend on all these lovely trains now, better go out and get a proper job! :D

Just noticed this at the ehattons site, quite a few diff liveries.Costly though at £125-132.

This is excellent news smile.gif  At last someone is going to produce it - Hornby have it seems have let this one get away from them...

To celebrate this good news a picture...

Will someone produce some 'Condor' head plates to go with them? One wonders..

Costly?

I don't think so when;

1. Where else will you get a RTR 28.

2. Compared to some of the run of the mill stuff Hornby makes eg Duchess £100+

Just ordered mine.

Question.

Did they double head a lot on their runs?

Great - one of the last diesel types to fall to Heljan then - 21/29 anyone?

I have a fleet of Heljan's finest, and despite issues with the 47, Clayton, 33/0, Western and 14 the rest are about as good as it gets in 4mm. Despite owning all of the problems none have dissuaded me to place a preorder for the Metrovic.

A 'Castle' on 'The Pines' if you have an ounce of good taste Cap'n :D

BTW for the person who asked above about their time at Barrow they usually worked single-headed (unless being rescued by a Black 5). I had several trips behind various of them at that time, including a run on the Lakeside branch where it did almost as well as a 2-6-4T.

Certainly been an interesting couple of days of announcements and it sounds like there's more to come in the next Model Rail. With the 28 being announced I'm struggling to think of any other BR mainline diesels haven't been produced or announced as RTR models - I can only think of the 16?

Yes a hundred thousand times........!!!!!

It would be just like our Danish chums to really get this one spot on after the recent eccentricities...

Can I justify getting one - hmmmm?

No I,ve no idea how much it would cost to produce a RTR model,my post was only to alert the RM community to a new model coming out and my view on the price structure was a very personal opinion one based on my outgoings per month eg Mortgage, bills, feeding my family etc.

I've just ordered two, as delivered green and GSYP non weathered. In fairness to the price its a model with fairly limited appeal, small runs (compared to Hornby etc) and extra expense in tooling up two completely different bogie sideframes etc. Its not that much more than their class 14 which has been done in similar circumstances.

Would be happy if a couple of quid from each sale was going towards the restoration of D5705 though (as Heljan have done with one of their Class 15's), it may get the old girl up and running long enough to get the makings of a good sound chip! ;)

I take it there is no estimated release date as of yet?
