RED AND YELLOW SATLINK WESTERN WAGONS

Recommended Posts

Hi, im looking for any photos or information on the engineering wagons that were used on the Great Western Railway during the installation of ATP (Automatic Train Protection). I understand there were several types of wagons used and they were red and yellow with Satlink Western on the side. Any help or info would be great.

Many thanks Darren.

Satlink Western had a lot of wagon types, anything in particular you were after?

Common, easy-to-model ex-revenue types included former OBA, OCA, SPA types, but there were also lots of old vac brake pipes/tubes, some vans, some coaching stock, plus exotic stuff like ferryvans converted to covered gondola's, BDA-based cabling trains, rectanks, lowmacs, even some warwells with hiabs!

Edit:

There's a few random pics on my site here - whilst the red/yellow was the official livery a lot of stock wasn't repainted, anything with a K prefix to the number (KDB/KDC) was S&T operated:

Hi i have just purchased a satlink western guv from e-bay and a few ZDA`s from Bachmann and as im building a great western depot layot period between 1985/90 i thought i would do some research into what they were used for. Unable to find much info on them thought i would ask on here. Thanks for the pictures it seems there are lots of unseen wagons hidden in dark forgotten sidings around the network.

I don't think some of the GUVs branded 'Satlink Western' ever turned a wheel after getting their fancy coat of paint; as far as I could ever find out they were just used for static storage space.

Were, not are sad.gif - most of the Satlink shots on my site were taken in the early 90s during the Paddington area resignalling

All of the vac braked stuff in those pics is long gone off the network, as is some of the air brake stuff - some of the ex-OBAs pictured were later converted to Sea Urchins by Mainline Freight!

Model Rail are doing a ltd edition S&T wagon based on the Bachmann OCA wagon and coded as a ZDA - I have ordered one and saw the painted sample at Glasgow back in Feb. If you don't get model-rail take a look at the Model Rail topics under Media on here and you will find more details of it on there.
