Glorious NSE
Okay, we need to get Dave a quick crash course on the lingo - cars, short for freightcars, in this case two per 737. We'll have you wearing stripey hats in no time don't worry. They do (did) make trams dont (didn't) they? From the writeup here they should have stuck to planes... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_Standard_Light_Rail_Vehicle
modelmaker87
Okay, we need to get Dave a quick crash course on the lingo - cars, short for freightcars, in this case two per 737. We'll have you wearing stripey hats in no time don't worry. Martyn, Its an ongoing battle, but we'll eventually overcome young beasties arrant vocabulary. I'll add to the list you started. Switch (point) - ties (sleepers) - park (stable) - grade (incline) - grade crossing (level crossing) - motor (locomotive) - power (locomotive/s) - on the point (lead loco). Should do for his first lesson, someone else can grow that list. Cheers, Tony
merlin46
Hi RMWebbers Here is the last selection of Day 3 in Kansas City before heading West to Denver, CO. All the images here are from around Argentine Yd, & even though we remained on public property at all times the BNSF police still could not resist poking their nose in. Even with this minor hassle the sun & trains more than made up for it From here we headed across the whole of Kansas stopping midway overnight along with other railroad related mandatory stops. More images to follow!!! Enjoy Tim
merlin46
Hi All Here are some more images from down town Kansas City this time at Santa Fe Jn on Day 3. 250BOB
Hi Tim Hope you are all well in North Wales..........just looking at your pictures, which are fantastic by the way, but I noticed that you have a freight train re fuelling with its train in tow. I suppose its a bit like pulling into the services to re fuel on a motorway. Never seen that before. Have a good Christmas...................Bob

merlin46
Hi Guys Here we go into Day 4 of the foam of 2010. While cruising down I70 across Kansas & on entering Colorodo, Tone & I espied some Espee tunnel motors in the middle of nowhere (so we thought). So next exit off for them to be be image captured. Fortunately for us they were parked up, which enabled us to detail the hell out of them!! While we were doing this a local guy turned up who was a rail fan & filled us in the details of the line, which in fact was the Kyle Shortline from Solomon to Stockton, KS portion. See below for more details:- Kyle Railroad operates 550 miles of rail lines in Colorado and Kansas, consisting of rail lines of the former Rock Island Lines (RI) and Union Pacific. The RI portion is a local port authority owned line operated by Kyle. This line extends from Mahaska, KS to Limon, CO, 213 miles. Kyle leases 178 miles of trackage in north central Kansas from Union Pacific, consisting of a line from Stockton to Solomon running through Downs and Beloit, a line from Downs to Harlan and a line from Beloit to Ames. Connections are made to UP, BNSF and K&O. Traffic is mainly grain and agricultural products. The Kyle Railways started operations on former RI portion in February 1982. Operations on UP leased lines began on June 2, 1991. On January 22, 1997, StatesRail of Dallas, TX acquired Kyle Railway, Inc. The StatesRail operations were sold to RailAmerica in January 2002.. Hope you enjoy Tim

merlin46
Hi Guys I didn't realise it was 8 months since I last posted in here Anyway I must complete this photo essay before I fly out for the foam of 2011 in October Anyway Day 4 continues as we finally reach Denver, CO. I wish I had done more research before arriving there as we missed a lot! I should have done more web research, ho-hum. The first 2 images show repairs to locos that have been working hard for a living, with repairs noted to the body panel around the exhaust. The other 2 are of switches stabled ready for their next duty. Hope all is good out there.
