Mikron Model Railways, Taunton

I had to make a site visit to Taunton today, to inspect some infrastructure with a colleague. This was done and a plan of action agreed upon.

Then, suddenly, I found myself walking down the slope from the station, and a mere 100 yards away or so was the new premises of Mikron Model Railways, just moved up to Taunton from Crewkerne.

Although the proprietors hadn't yet completed putting all the stock out and fitting the shop out, they were open for business and very friendly and welcoming when I went in. They look to be building up a good stock of all the main brands and particularly seemed to have a good stock of Skaledale. I bought a couple of wagons and will definitely look in each time I'm in Taunton.

Definitely worth a visit (and they do mail order too!).

which slope is that then? the Upside or Down where the taxi people tout for business?

Go down the Downside slope, away from where the taxis congregate and walk towards the town centre - you'll see the shop right in front of you on the left hand side of the road - can't miss it.

Cheers for the simple to follow direction captain :) Ill have a look at the place on my next visit to SWAG Land....Taunton is my usual Smoking Break Location ...

I've bought from them via ebay too. Highly recommended. None of this ??3.50 minimum postage nonsense for a couple of tiny items. wish i was closer to the shop.

hello all,

i recently got a job there, and despite a large amount of stock being out on the shevles there is plenty more stock that is unopened until we find space to put it out! Grahams Railways was unsuccessful in taunton becuase i hear he was always out of stock. Mike is willing to stock items for the more specialist modeller as well and is planning to open links with C and L, and Carrs to help give more selction.

Thanks , and we are always willing to stock customer requests. (BTW, we also have a repairs and spares service)

I can thoroughly recommend Mikron Model Railways in Taunton. No connection other than as a satisfied customer.

I have been purchasing from them for over 3 years now and absolutely love visiting the shop to look at all the tempting goodies on display!

The welcome is always warm, they have a huge range of stock* at prices competitive with the internet 'box-shifters', the staff are really knowledgeable about all things railway and when I buy something from them I'm confident of personal after-sales service.

* I model in OO gauge so am familiar with what they have for that, but they also seem to have plenty of N gauge and smaller/larger scale stuff too as well as all the scenery/electrics/paints etc.

Having a local railway model shop which I can pop into (free parking right outside, available often even on the busiest of days in Taunton I might add!) and get supplies and advice is worth it's weight in gold, so I would encourage other Somerset modellers who haven't done so to check them out and give them your support.

Oh yes, and they have a nice small layout (Dawlish'esque) to watch trains go by on!
