Hi All

These are some early days of the building being built by Peter;

There will be some more uploads of picture after the weekend as we have our model railway show held at Talysarn, should be a good turnout with several Layouts, so bookmark this space for more excellent Layout buildings that Peter as painstakingly done and spent many hours on...

Well done Peter, if you have any questions please feel free to ask or if you would like more photos of a specific building on the layout just drop me a question on it and I will see what can be done...?

post-5212-12599733285832_thumb.jpg

This is the emergency escape open air stair well...very fiddly for Peter to achieve and again many hours of hard work went into this part because of how tedious the stairs were to put together...

post-5212-12599735889339_thumb.jpg

The finished emergency stair well...completed but by no mean finished as this was just one part of the building that was being done...

post-5212-12599736835482_thumb.jpg

Just adding the stairs to the other part of the building...

post-5212-12599738962032_thumb.jpg

post-5212-12599739177938_thumb.jpg

As you can see this was on display in the early parts of making this building and looks great once it was added to the one end of the building...

post-5212-12599740739101_thumb.jpg

As you can see that the stairs have been fixed to the one side of the building...

post-5212-12599741714079_thumb.jpg

post-5212-1259974392533_thumb.jpg

There are the photos of the detail at the back of the building, this also had taken Peter many hours to acheive the look he was after, shame because a lot of it can not be seen unless you look from the side of the layout as the main track works its way round the layout...

post-5212-12599744878022_thumb.jpg

post-5212-1259974518929_thumb.jpg

Peter now turns his attention back to the main building after attaching the stairs and starts to make the front part that extends out of what will be two tracks...

post-5212-1259974981625_thumb.jpg

post-5212-12599750236316_thumb.jpg

Now we see the finished building and which as now had a paint job and can now be put into the layout and begins to take shape and looks like a real building at this point...

post-5212-12599750564057_thumb.jpg

Now the rock face as been and painted as you all know Peter has a unique way of making the rock faces to which he then paints with several different colours to achieve the correct colours he is after and the scenery really begins to take shape and looks as if its belongs where it should be on the layout. Peter then finishes the flocking; using many different types a grass to complete the finish look and now with the building in place really looks excellent.

Please feel free as ask any question about how Peter brings the layout to life with the scenery.

Hope you all enjoy the pictures that get posted... GTD will be at a local show over the weekend so hopefully will upload many more pictures of both steam era and modern image style.

Until the next time...

Regards Jamie

Hi

Just another close up of the attention to detail of the rear of the building, again Peter spent many of hours to complete this part of the building...!

post-5212-12599765790544_thumb.jpg

As you can see when Peter makes things like this, all pipe work have to have a purpose as to where they go or what they do, as some that I have seen have just added lots of pipe work that go nowhere and are just made for the looks, which is great, but with Peter's engineering back ground all pipes have a purpose and the pipes are normally colour coded e.g. for Fresh Water, Gas and drainage...etc, which just makes the look, that bit better.

And looks absolutely great...! Peter as to have all the praise for the many long hours and hard work that he has spent on this layout...!

Regards Jamie

I love the way the structures dominate the trains and so clearly establish the location. It may not be an exact replica of Peak Forest, but the Small Dale crusher fixes the locale as well as if it had been. Brilliant! I watched this thread on the old forum, thanks so much for posting those pictures.

Hi to All on the RMWeb Again...!

These are just a few pictures that were taken over the weekend from the Talysarn Show; Shame there wasn't a better turn outs for the amount of Layouts that was laid on for views to see. There were some good Demo's by Peter Midwinter and RMWeb ???Bangorlad??? and Jason Edmunds on LED's and DCC Fittings.

Back to a few pictures of the Great Tunsley Dale Layout, Any Questions, feel free to ask.

Regards JAMIE

Hi to ALL

These are some photo shots of the early days when the Main Building that Peter as spent many hours on was first put together, before it was finished with all the paints and the weathered look, but the end result looks fantastic.

Notice on the First photo shot which is the finished out come and the layout having its first public appearance and was completed with all the buildings and the main building which can be scene on the left as you look down the 28 foot layout. All praise goes to Peter for his many hours spent and the tedious work involved creating this superb layout of Great Tunsley Dale layout...

Regards

Jamie

Hi All

Some bad news. Due to us being let down by a person over accomdation in Stockport when we are taking GTD to the Stockport show the club has been unable to find us an additional twin room so they have had to cancel our invite to the show. This is not the clubs fault. So we will not be there in May. really disappointed Jamie is gutted as it was only his second show and he had altered his hols to go to the show when booking last year. So the next show is in October at Birkenhead.

post-6915-12772034008.jpg

Hi all

Work has been going on with the layout to correct some problems that we found in the operating side of the layout. One is that we have been continually getting a short in the storage sidings with trains moving when they should not. What we are now doing is isolating all the points from the lines in the four sections and are fitting onto the control panel four rotary switches so that power is fed to the section of the line that requires power. Also to prevent damage to the track during transport the edges of the boards have been fitted with guard side which it is hoped will prevent the damage and repairs to it at the shows.

The second item that is being done is that some of the seep point motors are not switching the electrical power to the frog thus causing stopping when shunting in the main sidings on the front of the layout. This is being overcome by the fitting of long lever micro switches to the underneath of the motors so that as the spindle moves across this either depresses or releases the lever on the switch.

The above shot is where the new wiring will be connected from the half way break on the sidings to the rotory switch.

Cheers

Peter

Just found this thread, what a superb layout and those buildings are great.

Colin

Hi Colin

Thanks for your comments, glad you like the layout.

Still doing work on it as you can gather. Fine detailing workready for the Birkenhead show end October. Am also finishing an article for Model Rail on it. The main job to do is weather a lot of the modern image stock. Also finish some more wagons for the steam era. Keep hoping that one day might get an invite to one of the big shows like ScotRail, Warley etc.

A big decision that has got to be made is what era we should run at each show ie steam/green diesel or modern image (don't have enough blue diesels to run it) as it gets complicated trying to run the two eras and carrying all the stock at any one show.

Will post some more on this site on the construction of the buildings as all the photos have gone off the original site.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

Can anyone say when they don't have work to do on their layout. The layout is definitely worth an invite to one of the bigger shows. I will look forward to seeing more of this layout in the near future hopefully.

Hi All

I have just been down to the uint to check on the state after the storm last night. Had not been down for a few days. Had a shock! We have had very high temperatures locally and found that a lot of the peco code 75 track in the storage yards has buckled even to the extent of forcing the rail out of the chairs. This is most probably caused by the fact that we have large sky light style roof windows directly above where the boards are up. Because the rail at each end of the board is soldered to copperclad and the rest of the track pinned it has taken al the expansion up in the joints so there is going to have to be some major remedial work carried out, cutting and splicing new lengths of track. This is only the 2nd time that we have experienced this. Will take some photos soon. (Jamie hint hint!!!!)

Sorry to hear about your track problems, at least it wasn't on the scenic boards.

Hi All

While posting on other threads I have been asked about my small shunter that I made for the layout. It was never finished due mainly to a comment by one member who said I had spoiled the layout by doing a freelance 'Thing'. Any way here are some shots of the building of it

It was made from a old Match box toy I obtained from a swap meet for 50.p a few years back. I frist cut the cab of and the chassis I then made a new cab out of an old Airfix Shunter that had one day decided that it did not like my layout and took a dive from it to the floor. A tenshodo? spud motor bogie was used for the power plant . New chassis side frames were made out of .040 Plastic card with four tender axleboxes out of the junk box glued on New front & back buffer beams made out .040 plastic card with industrail 18in. buffers. The air tank was again out of the junk box. The exhust was two sections of plactic tubing.

The actual engine it was based upon was a shot of a North British Company engine but the front and back windows in th cab are different. So it was not just a 'Thing'.

Anyway it will be finished one day as it is going to be used on my China Clay layout at the dryers.

Any comments are always welcome.

Peter

Personally I love the little shunter you have built. Definitely use it on Tunsley as it will always be a talking point.

I never cease to be amazed by how many people comment on 'realism' of models. Always prevalant at exhibitions and generally from non-exhibitors.

It is your layout, so you make the rules.

Keep the fabulous pictures of your layouts coming.

Thanks

Hi Jeff

Hi all

Here are some shots of the damage to the track from last weekend with all the sun. As you can see in places the expansion has lifted the rail out of the chairs completely. I have now nearly finished replacing section with new track or cutting the rail sliding it out of the chairs and then re sliding it back into all the chairs which are not damaged. it should be all back to normal by tomorrow.

Hi Peter

Nice to see all the Track Work now mended and the wooden sides have been fixed in place to stop the loco on the extreme side of the fiddle yard side of the Layout.

Photos look great mate...!

hi All

Here are some before and after shots from the old web site of the small round hopper. It was made from part of a drain pipe which I cut off one of them that serves the house. The top and bottom cones are from a cheap set of plastic funnels with the ends cut off. The rest is made from Plastruct members. On the finished shots the item was sprayed with a dirty grey paint and then when dry scenic rust was applied and then a fine coat of white talc was dusted over it.

Hi All

On the old site I asked if there was anybody who could held me on GTD with the prositioning of signals on the layout. I did get some help but I need to complete the rest of it ready for the Birkenhead Show at the end of Oct. I want to keep a fair representation using semaphores not coloured lights.

If there is any one who can help I would be gratful. I have uploaded the plan of the layout.

Peter.
