Scale Model Transfers

This topic does not intend to create a witch hunt...I am more interested in understanding if I am a one off or if other people are experiencing the same as me and thus highlighting...

I sent an order into Scale Model Transfers on Aug 15th for a number of sheets from the range. Appreciating that this is a small operation and noting the statements on the site, I wasn't expecting lightning quick turn around.

The monies left my account on the 28th Aug.

On 3rd Oct I contacted Scale Model Transfers who informed me that a set was produced, however they were damaged and that another set would be made.

on 28th Oct a follow up email again requesting an update of my order I was informed they had been dispatched that day.

As of today still no order.<_<

Slightly chuffed off that the guy thinks its ok to take my money and not produce, however I'd rather not see any one here fall foul of the suspect trading practices...

Is this a normal level of service for SMT, as I ordered some transfers from the states from an equally small supplier and they took less than a week to arrive from date of payment?

I have dealt with Frank a few times. He has done custom transfers for me and I have had some of his standard ones.

He was a little slow to answer emails, but at this time (earlier this year), I think there was a meber of the family that was ill.

In the end he contact me saying they were all ready and then he took the pament.

Yes it was a little slow but I think he is an honest guy.

Friendly Email helps....just enquiring or there is always the lost art of the telephone!

I've also experienced this. My order from SMT took almost a year to arrive and when it did there was an accompanying letter pointing out the mistakes on the custom sheets. A 'repair' sheet turned up a few weeks later with the missing/corrected elements. Full marks for honesty and eventual good service - I understand that small printing jobs must be difficult to place if not done in house.

Now, I wasn't desperate for the transfers and didn't mind paying up front, but I got a bit fed up as other people who had ordered at the same time got products much faster. However, I always got very professional and courteous replies from Frank whenever I asked him what was going on.

I would certainly order from SMT again, but not if I had a tight deadline to finish a model!

Cheers,

James

I have had many problems as listed above but I have found if you ring him up he will explain why.

Over the past year he has had trouble with printers either quality or going bust, I see it as a specialist service and expect it to take some time.

Frank has done me a lot of custoom transfers including 3 sets for VEA's,75t crane, Seacows, a set of 10 for my dogfish rake to name but a few and all in 7mm.

I also had aa few problems, but Frank did keep me informed (albeit sparsely) and he did have problems with his printer, the transfers eventually arrived and he had done a very good job on them. If you are prepared to wait he does produce excellent goods in the end

I also experienced a delay with my order, although I was told this was down to a technical problem with his email. Nonetheless, his transfers are well worth the wait, and the range covers a lot of wagons that are not done by anyone else. My only gripe is that the carrier film is very thin, so you have to get the transfer in pretty much the right place first time - not easy with the blue lightning stripe on a Clay Tiger!

? Well I'd just like to say I've nothing but praise for Frank, I asked him to combine a few bits of already created transfer sets and add some extras, he did a lot of research off his own back and has produced some extremely good looking transfers for my LPG TTV tank wagons, kept me informed all the way, even asked if I wanted better postage during the strikes. A hefty bulk discount to I should add I'm getting 6 sets for the price of 5 really.?

Has anyone had dealings with Frank Warner lately? I placed an order by e-mail about two months ago, so far I've had no reply nor any reply from either of his phone numbers.

I've had commissions done by him for some modern china clay stock in the past and have always found him to be very helpful, and despite the timescales, have always been more than happy with the results.

I have just received some very nice custom transfers from Steve at Railtec Models. He put enough on the sheet to do 4 vehicles and it cost less than £4. Good service and value for money.

I will put some pictures up on my blog shortly.

I have been trying to contact him by email about PAA china Clay transfers since early February and have had no replies at all which seems strange,

I have dealt with him before and usually had a reply if not always straight away

I ordered something from him a week or so back and had a reply from his brother informing me that due to Franks ill health Scale Model Transfers was no more. Shame as he did some unusual ones.

I had contact with Franks Sister today, she has ask me to pass this message on and to thank everyone for there support

Frank suffered a stroke which has left him without too much feeling in his arms and legs. He remains in hospital. He won't be able to continue his work on the transfers..

Please bear with us as we return monies/models to everyone.

Hi

Thanks for posting this as it nice to know the situation with scale model transfers, a sad situation for frank. I had some custom transfers made and during the various e-mails back and forth he seemed genuinely enthisastic and helpful, and kept me informed. There was a good variety of transfers available and its a shame he'll be unable to continue his business.

all the best

Chris
