It looks lovely Dave. Southern lined green is a splendid looking livery.

The lining in areas such as steps is very tricky indeed and not for the faint hearted and your results do you credit.

I have previously used a cocktail stick to gently reduce the thickness on painted lining I have applied....which could explain why I now model 1950s British Railways...

Ok, here's a few more, including a couple of close-ups.

Recently picked up an LSWR whistle from Markits.  A very nice bit of turned brass, better than a whitemetal offering.

The missing bit is very obvious in this photo:

Quick query, should the cab spectacles be polished brass?

Hi Dave

I have taken a look at some photos via Google and it doesn't look like they are, even on the LSWR liveried ones, but it is only my opinion from looking at B&W photos.

The safety valves on the other hand do look like they were not painted in many of the photos, so would be brass coloured, but they tend to tarnish due to the heat.

I can't provide a definite answer, but if you look at the Hornby rendition of the T9 and the M7, they both have them in polished (painted) brass. I'm not sure how important the engine needed to be for them to have polished plates, although if they went to all the effort of lining them out, surely they would polish them too?

That looks lovely, Dave. Six weeks ago it was shuffling up and down Mutton.

Now look at it!

Top drawer.

They are such elegant locos

Agree absolutely, almost delicate, like early Johnson 4-4-0s on the Midland or Billinton B2s on the Brighton. And this is a superb rendition. Reminds us how good olive can look.

Thanks for all the glowing comments guys, I have to admit I'm really pleased with the result.

Regarding the brasswork, I haven't scraped the paint off the safety valves yet, but I HAVE made up the missing bits.

If you haven't spotted what was missing, here they are:

The pipes that run along the tender valance each side, vacuum and steam-heat?

And here's one loosely fitted:

Pipes were included as part of the Hornby tender, but one side was broken and the other was far from straight.  As they were made of a flexible plastic that is impossible to straighten, I've substituted straight brass wire with soldered brackets.

Cheers, Dave.

She scrubs up well, I must say.

Dave,

Those are extremely fine, what size brass bits did you use for the strapping?

I agree that the Hornby one is a bit difficult, seems to be resistant to gluing or bending and is almost always not straight. The end of the K10 seems to be in sight!

Thanks Jack,

I used 0.7mm straight brass wire for the pipes, with 0.6mm x 0.2mm brass strip wrapped round for the brackets.  It was a bit of waste etch from the scrapbox, I never throw anything away!

The left-over parts from an etched kit, like the strip around the edge, have a multitude of uses.  And you soon build up quite a stock.

I keep thinking this loco is finished, then I keep finding more things to add.  At the moment I'm persuading bits of lead into all sorts of odd cavities, to get as much weight in as possible.

And its high time that the loco was delivered to it's new Home Shed...

Cheers, Dave.

Did you compensate the chassis? As I find you need less weight if you do.

No, its a rigid chassis, with as much weight as I can muster over the drivers.  The bogie isn't totally free to flop around, it has some restraint.

A couple of photos of the tender.  The handbrake standard being that soft plastic, didn't survive the handling, but the kit included a lovely turned brass item.

Do not worry about too many pictures, the more the merrier, more chance to look at the detail of the excellent modelling and get more ideas.

I agree with Bryan 100% the more photos the better! Has anyone mentioned silk purses yet?

Quick question, should the wheels be lined?

I am happy to report that the K10 has been delivered to it's new "Home Shed", and the Shedmaster will issue a report on it's performance in due course.

Dave.
