RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 4, 2010 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 4, 2010 We had our AGM in the cabin today, this was planned for Darlington which was sadly cancelled (lucky for me though as I had a burst pipe joint last night which was spraying my kitchen door/window, temporary repair for over night and all sorted this morning, (ta to MWT), gawd knows what state things would have been in by Sunday night), after the AGM we continued into a discussion about the next project, lots have been mused about, and plenty may or may not yet get built but for now ... The current plan is for a model based on Lafayette, Indiana, for our purpose it will be moved to be between Linwood Yard, North of Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta's Inman Yard, this allows Tony to photograph the trains we intend to run ! WE are probably going to add some industry with sidings to add a bit of shunting interest. This, for some of us, is a completely new tack in our modelling so a big learning curve is ahead - we will try and detail as much as possible, including our mistakes ! Lotty is dead, long live Catawba. More details as things start happening ...

Allegheny1600
Very, very interesting, Dave! Will observe with interest (will you have a shortline running older stock in addition to the new roads?). Cheers, John E.

Lotty is dead, long live Catawba. More details as things start happening ... Hi Dave, What sort of timescale are you looking at? (from inception to exhibitable) I know a certain Scottish exhibition manager has a large gap in 4 years for a US layout to come to Scotland! Thanks
RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted December 5, 2010 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2010 Time will tell Phil, keep watching for updates, things are happening but it will be a while yet before we decide on the first exhibition date. We've been practising weathering stock today, with Tony S mentoring, looks like it's going to be an interesting project B)

Especially as you are getting closer to GRS territory.... I detect GRS locos on 'Power by the hour - pay back time' will be a possibility! Besides - With all that input from Tony, you are correct, it will be a very interesting, (no doubt) to say the least intricate and detailed project. Thanks for the input.... ps - More modelling time will be available from June 2011...
modelmaker87
Will it be Proto87 Dave? Cheers Jim Short answer - No. Long answer - 16 trains x 26 cars x 4 axles a piece @ $5.00 per axle, using 32 motors with 6 axle a piece and your wheel/axle costs are over 6000 pounds sterling. However, we will be using our own modified track and wheel standards which I have slowly developed and got working nicely. The best I can describe them in British modelling terms would be similar to EM. Finer therefore than OO yet coarser than P4. If that makes any kind of sense. All switches will be handbuilt save perhaps some convenient places in the classification yard, if they happen to fit. But knowing Tim R and Mike T, they'll probably be all handbuilds. My preference anyway. Cheers, Tony
modelmaker87
Very, very interesting, Dave! Will observe with interest (will you have a shortline running older stock in addition to the new roads?). Cheers, John E. John, There is a shortline connection on the prototype and we will have similar. No name has been set for that but a long time ago Tim Rogers and I talked about building a small switching layout and I built 3 switchers under the road name Terminal Transfer RR or TT Line and I see no reason not to keep it that way. The prototype shortline is in fact the KB&S. In the same manner as Charlotte Road was built, this layout will be prototypical but not of the exact prototype. In other words we'll build to the prototype track plan but place what we have in NC and not Indiana. Cheers, Tony

modelmaker87
Hi Guys, CJ Traffic Ready Stock #001 The first completed piece of 'traffic ready' stock for CJ. I built this originally in 2002 but later weathered it more completely as I learned more about different weathering techniques. I'm going to remove some of the scrap compressed sheet loads as the load height limit in open gons has changed since I first loaded this up, as it is our intention to operate CJ closer to current operating practice. Cheers, Tony
