Caledonian mentioned that the colour looked very dark. I can't bring to mind where from memory, but I know I've seen picture references showing NCB 16T minerals in black.

The real wagons would have been repainted by the NCB, and I guess it is unlikely that they would have used exactly the same colour paint that BR did. I think that the dark grey adds a nice variety to a train of wagons if one mixes them in with a few heavily weathered BR grey and bauxite wagons.

Hi all,

picking up the NCB Pannier today, I was also surprised to find a few other items now in stock. Items currently available now include:

32-210Y NCB Pannier Tank

37-225W NCB 16T Mineral Wagons

37-669Z 14t BP/Shell tanks (weathered)

37-537Z 20t CAR 'New Cross Gate' Guards Van (weathered)

38-160V Pack of 3 condemned vans

38-095Z Pair of PNA wagons (weathered)

...the N-gauge 97201 was also in stock, but technically Bachmann Farish ;)

All were in stock and available! Of note, on a packaging perspective, the PNAs come in a long box, typical of the tanker 3 packs, but with just two wagons... makes it easier to store and not as separate wagons. I quite like the weathered guard's van - simple but there's something about it that's appealing.

Cheers,

Ixion.

Money has come out of my account for the Signal Box to send me the CAR brake van, the 3 nr. condemend vans and the 2 nr. PNA's, I'd tagged them onto a previous order.

On the subject of which I purchased the NSE 08, 'Dartmoor', but there are no wipers to the screens. I've raised it with Signal Box and they checked a stock model and that was without them too, but i've another Bachmann 08 with them fitted and my lad also has one with them. Checked with Bachmann and they don't supply them as a spare - any ideas, folks?

Looking at the Signal Box website, it seems that the Bullied 3-car set of coaches S768 has arrived Bullied set S768. Has anyone seen one? I presume the coaches are unchanged from the latest standard models in most respects, but hopefully a better representation of BR Green than current versions and the set number is on the BSK coach ends? If the Green is accurate - the same colour as the latest Farish (but NOT the Bachmann) Mk1s would be a good comparitor - then I would be tempted.

I picked up my Bulleid Set (or rather I had mine delivered in person by the shop manager - thanks so much) at the Donny show. Beautiful set, however the coaches do look a rather dark green. I think it is the same green as on the latest releases of 'standard' Bulleid stock? No idea if it's anything like the Farish ones.

I really can't remember what the colour of real ex works Bulleids looked like so I'm happy with my set.

All I need now is to get on with doing something about getting the layout to run them on :O

Thanks. So it looks like "No Thanks" to the set for me. The current green used by Bachmann for its OO Mk1s and standard Bullied coaches is too dark - accepted (on here) wisdom is that the green used by Bachmann Farish on its new Mk1s and by Hornby on it BR green Maunsells are much better representations. I had hoped ModelZone would have insisted on a better colour but it seems not... :(

I could try and take a good daylight pic of one of them for you if you want. Being where you are you can't really have a look at a set can you?:O

Let me know PM 'cause it would be a shame if the set is OK and you rely on my rather vague description

Hi,

I have managed to get round to taking photos of a few of the specials. I hope you like them and they are not too big for viewing. I'll post in seperate entries for each type of vehicle, owing to technical issues.

They will be:

NCB Minerals

CAR Brake

14t BP-Shell Tankers

PNA Wagons

Condemned Vans

So, to start, the NCB Minerals. Of note is that each side appears to be a duplicate of the other.

Hi,

finally, my personal favourites, the bauxite condemned, lightly weathered vent vans.

Just before, I hope the photos are of use to people who may be considering the models of this set of postings. I have tried to keep image sizes right down, so I hope no one has big problems loading them.

Thanks for taking the images of the wagons and posting them!

Bachmann seem to have done an exceptional job on these, but...

They sure do have a hard time getting the brakes correct!

The tanks are always wrong on one side, Bachmann are using a chassis with a cross connect and clutch, the brakes should be independent, i.e. no connecting rod from side to side. A pain to correct, in this day and age Bachmann really should be using a different chassis with the correct brakes... angry.gif

Unlucky you are too, because the three condemned vans all have the brakes assembled backwards. The brake handle / Morton clutch is on the wrong side in all three cases. This is a case of Bachmann having the correct parts and assembling them wrong. Fairly easy to correct, but a slight pain on a pre weathered model as you will disturb the weathering when you pry the bits off and switch them.

next up is the CAR Brake Van in bauxite, lightly weathered

I'd beg to differ with thatlaugh.gif

I pre-ordered three of these (one for a mate), only to find that the weathering on one in particular was so heavy that I found it unacceptable. Last weekend, I did manage to find two better ones from The Signalbox at the Donny show, and obtained a refund on two of the others with no problem, but even the best of them is rather more blathered than those pics. I accept that factory weathering varies, but I'm afraid I really cant see the point of it when it almost obliterates very fine lettering detail (which in this case was my main reason for buying).

Hi Pete Piszczek, Pennine MC and Paul.Uni,

I wonder if they are all built the same or perhaps I was just 'unlucky'? That said, I'm no expert in the subject, so I admit to not realising it  I take what you say though - it's a shame some of these simple issues cannot be addressed more consistently.

Regarding weathering, I have to admit it did seem a little light. That said, I may be tempted to get another one, with the hope it would be a little more heavy... so there's hope yet!! :D

Paul.Uni - I hope their popularity does not prevent you from being able to get one! I would say they are well worth it... Regarding the vans, I can't remember seeing a condemned vehicle in the past, except one of the NCB wagons in this posting. I hope you do manage to get what you are after though ;)

Cheers,

Ixion.
