Hi all

I am thinking of buying Templot, what I would like to know is can you layout 00 track works with it? And when you buy the license do you have to renew it each year?

Also how do’s it print out your track plan? sorry of so many questions about Templot .

As I want to be able to drawer out the whole track plan and build on top, For my new layout I am planning.

All the best

Darren

Hi Darren. If you are going to build your own track or use a combination of hand built turnouts and RTR flexi, then Templot is a superb piece of software. It does not carry a library of RTR track components like WinRail or most other track packages and is not really suited to that type of trackwork. I use it extensively on my own layout Eastwood Town where the total plan has been set out, cutting templates generated and turnout plans generated. It's a huge benefit being able to plan everything in advance and be certain it will all go together before cutting any wood at all.

Printing can be done in a whole variety of ways and I've sent files to a CAD printer and had a whole terminus plan on one continuous sheet or you can output to A4 sheets and stick them together. Each sheet has accurate alignment marks, so is easily done.

It's a one off purchase with no annual licence fee and support from Martin Wynne is superb.

If you go to my layout thread you will see some of the results I've achieved with Templot. The link to the thread is in my signature.

If you want to model real track-work, and want to understand how real track is built, then TEMPLOT is the package for you. No other software available to modellers lets you recreate real track-work for your model.

It’s a one-off licence with regular free updates.

There is a Forum available where questions can be asked and problems solved

if all you want to do is stick propriety track together then use ANYRAIL.

Hi

I have been a TEMPLOT user for a number of years now and I would add that initially it is a steep learning curve, but once mastered it is a massive piece of softwear. I would first work through all the tutorials to get the hang of partial templates that are required for complex S & C ( switches and crossings ) ie. Tandem Turnouts and Slips etc. A working knowledge of Permanent Way terminology will be useful.

Track can be designed in all gauge scale combinations, you can set it up to produce the trackwork of your favourite company. ie the correct number of sleepers per length how long those sleepers should be etc. etc.

Thanks to you all for the replays , looks like I will be getting a copy of Templot as I am going to take down Torrington and put it into storage and start again with a new layout, but this time using hand build track.

Thanks

Hi Darren, Just looked at your profile after you sorted out the brake rigging for me. Go ahead and buy Templot if you are thinking about building your own track which it sounds like you are. I'm modelling just down the line from you, Barnstaple Junction and Ilfracombe. Here's a picture of some of the trackwork so far designed in Templot.

Also note that there is no recurring costs for Templot. Only slight issue is that you license is locked to the MAC address of your PC which means if you change PC at any stage you need to mail Martyn and ask for a new licence key but of both occasions I have needed to do this it's been a very quick process.
