Back from the exhibition day 2 - Yesterday seemed busy, today seemed slower early on , with attendance building up as the day progressed - quitened at lunchtime and there was a sudden swelling of numbers around 2.45. All in all the layout generated a fair amount of interest - with several people commenting that it provided a lot of operational interest in a smallish area, without seeming cramped or overcrowded - also some nice comments on the "Underground Ernie" chassied boxcabs and how well they ran. The S-1 behaved impeccably, with the slow-running causing a great deal of comment. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and met some people I knew and others I'd not met before. Some photos before the public arrived this morning

Thanks to all for their good wishes on here, and those who came to see it, and expressed their comments

Great pictures, and glad you had a good show. I'm amazed by how well the perspex barrier disappears into the image - I didn't spot it until I got to the last one, then I had to go back and check that it was actually in the others :) How high do you show the layout, given that you presumably have to reach inside to throw the switches?

Thanks very much, everybody - the only problem was that I'd forgotten to snip the Nub off one of the caboose throws - so it scraped and jammed - cut it off, and no further problem at all - Will - It is set at 40", which lets me reach to operate it, without catching my arm on anything, or having to bend. The barriers are almost invisible in use, their real intention being to stop stock falling off the edge - a slight problem if stock needs railing, but the fiddle yard cassettes from Locolifts sort that problem out :D

Jack,

I got my $0.01 camera today, in fact I got 2, but the other cost $3.25, still not bad for less than $10 each once shipping is added. I put in an 8GB microcard (cheapest one I could find) $19. I will post a video later, but I am impressed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Camera car #2 - this is the replacement for the faulty one - still awaiting arrival of the second - real life is getting in the way of modelling at the moment, so I haven't had a chance to run it on East 149th Street ,but ,as you can see, this one is much lower and should go through the entrance to the car float without any problem. The photo is about 3x life-size - it is actually 5cm long x 3cm wide x 1cm high

Gene - Ebay.com then look for "Video spy camera" or "video gum camera" and trawl through them to find the best price with free shipping - I can recommend a dealer called "linjiechong " You will need to buy a mini SD (not SDHC - THEY ARE NOT COMPATIBLE!) card to use with it - they normally come with an adapter to fit the SD slot in a reader.
