Perhaps with a light dusting from the airbrush Dave? That IMO would help lift the detail on the skirts and slightly tone down the lining? But yes I do think the lining works!

As per other's coment's the new shade of red sit's very well, the original colour was a bit on the pink side!

Great stuff as per usual!

Cheers

Paul

Well, its nearly finished, lots more bits stuck on, and weathering added.

Still more to do; cab interior needs fitting and a crew adding, coal in bunker, operating rod to sandpot etc.

I havent yet lined the skirts on this side of the loco, but I think its needs some.

Cheers,

Dave.

Well I think its finished at last, some cab detail added, but not a lot in the way of pipework. Much of it will be obscured by the crew anyway.

I dont think theres any more bits to stick on, and I think it looks ok with the tramway coaches.

Have to think about the next project now.

Looks very very good Dave!

I will look forward to seeing the loco in the flesh at Barnstaple show in a couple of weeks and will need to get some photos on Bridport Town.

Any more thoughts on the next station on Marshwood Vale?

Its time to beat this thread into action again.

Earlier on, when describing the tramway brakevan construction, I alluded to a second brakevan using the leftover balcony parts from the first conversion.

Well here they are; the balcony and steps attached to a section of floor, and the all-important etched grills for the balcony railings. Also shown is my drop-in chassis unit and the remains of the donor Branchlines wagon chassis kit.

A complete Clogher Valley Railway wagon chassis kit from Branchlines will form the basis of the detailing for the van underframe.

More updates when Theres something to tell!

Cheers,

Dave.

After a short and sweet stint on the brakevan its taken a back seat while I finish off a kit for a friend. Belive it or not its standard gauge! An 0-Gauge Hunslet "Jazzer" from an Agenoria Kit. It came to me mostly built, but needing finishing. Unfortunately it had been stored for quite a while and got very mucky, while the flux had attacked the solder joints and they were coming apart.

So nothing for it but to dismantle and clean up. This didnt take long with a big iron and scrapers, and the main body components are shown.

The body detail is very good and features some very nice riviting.

The chassis was complete and painted but needed a good cleanup; then re-soldering of some wiring and tweaking of pickups had it running very nicely.

Cheers,

Dave

After a lot of scraping, abrading and wire-brushing, not to mention bending and flattening, I've got the body soldered together. At least it looks like a loco again.

Next job is the boiler, another rescue mission. I think its going to have to come apart like the rest of the bodywork.

Cheers, Dave.

Having been daunted by the prospect of rebuilding the boiler, it actually proved quite a bit simpler than anticipated. Once again I began by unsoldering and cleaning up; and then re-forming the rather distorted barrel around a length of solid rod. Soldering the etched formers in place held it to shape.

The smokebox is designed as a separate entity to be assembled and slid into place over the boiler barrel. However the wrapper had been soldered on directly, and the etched front-plate bore little resemblance to anything. Using the boiler and wrapper as formers, the front-plate was filed to a more accurate and symmetrical shape. The with everything carefully held together the smokebox was rather gingerly soldered together from the front. The result was a perfect push-fit smokebox.

That was most of the etching dealt with, the footsteps and sandboxes had already been formed by the owner and just needed soldering in place. Most of the cab interior was already done, but this needed a bit more tweaking to get right.

Cheers, Dave.

Not a lot to add to what I've already said about this one; most of the bodywork detail has been finished and fitted, apart from the handrails and sandboxes which will be fitted after painting. I should have fitted the buffers before taking the photos though.

You get a choice of early and late period boiler fittings, the later ones consist of open safety valves and a flat topped dome. We decided the early ones looked better.

Cab fittings are loose at the moment, and will be fixed after painting. Not a lot of room to swing a shovel!

Whilst thinking that this was just about finished, some problems with the chassis have emerged, so that will need some more attention next.

Cheers,

Dave.

HI DLT

How do you do these so quick! yet another bit of amazing modelling from you.

I hope to this year to start building my own loco’s, as I have been looking at having ago at one of the High level industrial 0-4-0 for my new layout.

Keep up the good work and keep the photo’s coming.

All the best

Darren

My progress is positively pedestrian compared to yours Darren!

I built a Canal class from Agenoria. They go together very well. I like what you have done, I want to see it painted.

Thanks very much, I agree its a nice kit to build. Paintwork will be plain black.

Cheers, Dave.

I'm not so keen. Personally I think it looks perfectly gorgeous in naked, polished brass. :man_in_love_mini:

Hi Kenton,

Ooh, can of worms time! I keep a polished unpainted loco on my layout, and regularly get told off for it!

Cheers,

Dave.

I think that you have got the wheel gauge wrong there Dave!

Seriously though, does look very good and up to your usual standard, something that us mere mortals can only dream of!

Don't go down the route of another polished loco - you will never live it down!

Heres one for all those who wanted to see it painted.

It was scrubbed with Ajax first, and then chemically blackened, followed by good old Halfords grey primer.

Halfords matt black will follow.

Cheers, Dave.

Looks good. Do you chemically black it all or just the wear edges, footplate etc.

I had intended to just do the edges and rivits, but by the time I had been round with the brush there wasn't a lot left unblackened, so I did the whole lot.

Cheers, Dave.

This loco will be for sale when completed.

Its been painted black and is undergoing some light weathering.

Photos when its finished.

Cheer, Dave.

Ah! Not tempted to have a small 0 gauge layout then Dave?

I thought that the track gauge was wrong!

NO!!!

Quite enough on my plate as it is, without going off at a tangent.

Trying to be self-disciplined and sticking with the MVR and BHTC in narrow gauge.
