NERAG

Hello all...

Thought Id create a North East Region, area group for those in the area. While I know the North East area has changed geographically during its time, Im thinking that the region would be from the Tweed to the Humber, although I'd personally go as far as York.

As for myself, Im a modern image modeller, with an interest in the current scene, although this is waining with the DB takeover of EWS, and the demise of some other good operations, such as GNER and Virgin Cross Country. Despite the interest in current traction, I also enjoy the branch line scene, prefering this to the mainline speed and 'everything has to be big brash and fast' approach. I enjoy looking at those workhorses that are seen as mundane, or uninteresting, so being from Bishop Auckland, over time Ive developed a massive soft spot for a 142! This can be taken back through studying older engines from the region, so engines like a K1, Q6, J21, and G5, also rank as favourites amongst the other A2, A4 and standards.

My layout is based on Bishop Auckland, given a 'what-if' sinareo, whereby trains from a succesful Weardale railway terminate and run round, while Bishop Auckland is served by a better service frequency from National Rail opperators. As a result the two can be seen passing and terminating while other flows of freight pass through to take Stone and Cement from the branch.

I look forward to hearing other modellers from the region, and what you are working on....

Where do I sign up?

Our interests are very similar, my own layout is based on a "what-if" scenario on the Border Counties railway - imagining Kielder Forest as a present day location for branch line traffic (mainly 153s and 156s) and a large timber operation. I've yet to transfer this from the old RMWeb. I'd like to run a preserved steam loco at some point in the future, and at the mo I'm leaning towards either a J21 or a Standard 3MT, both of which ran on the branch when it was in operation.

I also have a carriage servicing depot underway in a small set of Ikea drawers. http://www.rmweb.co....7&showentry=326

Hi

I am from Northallerton so east coat main line and freight line to Middlesbrough are my railway viewing points. I would sign up to the NERAG I have a large layout under construction of no real place but I do like modern diesels the most, but I have a mix of locos (200+ DCC) I will happily put some photos on the site and more info??

Cheers

Hi,

I'm in Northumberland, you've probably seen my photos in my gallery or on fotopic.

I've just started a thread on Oxton, my 0 gauge layout, I am also building a 00 layout using the trackplan of Armathwaite on the Settle and Carlisle, name yet to be decided. Both of these are set in pre grouping days, Midland Railway, though I also have a smallish collection of modern 00 stock.

Then there is the Swiss n gauge, based mainly on the Sudostbahn (Southeastern Railway), which in real life has 1 in 20 gradients, which usually runs 5 coach loco hauled trains or else emus, but sometimes running up to 14 coaches with 3 locos! Being Switzerland locos and stock from several companies can be run on the layout as there are complex shared and through workings.

and I think that there are several in the CAG who may want to speak to you, as long as your intensions are not hostile.

Stockie

Im not usually hostile... one or two things might frustrate me a little.... being:

1 - S&D is the Stockton and Darlington Railway, not some over glorified scrapped branch down south - thats the S&DJR

2 - The odd engine on rails its not supposed to be - whos idea was it to let Repton get into Whitby?!

Yours

Evening all

I live in Wensleydale in the lovely Yorkshire Dales.

My modelling taste is also based on the North Eastern Region, with my layout depicting my version of York (Eastcote Central)

and my youtube series North Eastern Steam depicting steam in the late 50s in the region.

It's strange, as I was originally from Blackpool, having all my holidays in the Yorkshire Dales, but my Railway tastes have

never changed..... LNER, Eastern and North Eastern Region :D

Pleasure to be here chaps

Tom

I'll throw my hat in as although my primary interest is the ScR, my soft spot for the Northumberland/Durham/Cumberland sections in the BR era is reasonably well documented on this forum.

If it was strong enough to build a J27, that must go for something!

Like Dave I'm really an ScR man, but for my sins I work on the Metro on Tyneside, largely cobbled together from all sorts of former NER branch-lines and know far more than anybody has a right to about its history.

As to "thinking that the region would be from the Tweed to the Humber, although I'd personally go as far as York", surely it would be logical to go to Shaftholme Junction B)

Hi guys,

I would like to become a member of this group. I have only just noticed the thread. I have connections with both Wensleydale and the Tyne. I have just joined NEGOM last week and enjoyed a digital slide show from the nice people at the Armstrong Trust at Penshaw. I was shocked to see photographs of the blue Pullman at Hartlepool in the sixties carrying the players of a rugby team. The fans apparently went by normal stock !.

My interests are BR (NE) steam and to that end have entered the 2010 challenge on that basis. This will give me the opportunity to get back to my roots instead of building all this GWR stuff for others. The connection with the number 5 will be five new engines especially for the layout challenge. I have barely started a J72 some time ago so I will push this on first to completion.

I model to 7mm and just about all engines are scratchbuilt. I would do the same with stock also if I had the time !.

There are many other NER men on group we should try and get into the fold. I`ll spread the word.

Kindest

Ian

Good news everyone!

The timing of this groups launch is co-inciding with a release from a major manufacturer! Bachmann have just released BR standard tank no. 80029 in BR lined black with early crest, and 51A Darlington shed. How many other groups could have a launch and model as well! Whats better is that rather than this be a limited edition run whereby only a few people could enjoy such a locomotive.... this one is a standard release, which means tons of people, not just a mere 500 or 750 stand a chance of getting this wonderful engine. As a result, more model railways will now feature a locomotive, from a much more decent shed and region of proud tradition and heritage, rather than have to get an engine from other areas. Whats better is that some people modelling other areas might not get a decent shed plate on their layouts of other regions, an example for all of the true place that decent engines, crews and railway traditions are all derived from.

Enjoy.....

Hi folks.

I'm posting on behalf of Durham & District MRS, who are (slowly) putting together a model of Shincliffe on the Leamside line, in 4mm scale.

We've a 24' x 8' space, and can do the entire station area between the bridges without compression, with the exception of the sidings to the old sawmill.

We're initially doing a 'what if' scenario where the station had remained open in the 1960s, but retaining the 1926 track plan, and stock to cover 1948-67 (ie steam & green diesels) will be used at first. However, it's hoped that eventually we can go back in time, hopefully as far back as the turn of the last century.

Anyone interested, please PM me, or turn up on a Wednesday evening at our Clubroom, which is upstairs in the Framwellgate Moor & Pity Me WMC, Front Street, Durham. We meet from 7.30pm onwards.

Hello all,

I'm a recent edition to RM Web and would like if possible to join the group. I'm based in the York area but have strong ties to the East Riding. I model in 7mm and concentrate my modelling on late 50's early 60's BR steam in the Yorkshire Wolds around the Market Weighton area. I chose this location as this was a junction between Scarborough, Hull, Selby and York and as such had a wide variety of traffic travelling through ( including the odd foreigner on holiday traffic!! ).

Many thanks Mick

PS having fired Repton, its a capable machine but a campaign should be started to replace it with something more appropriate like a D49. Preferabley repainted to mixed traffice BR black and not that silly ( nothing like apple ) green it has at the minute. biggrin.gif post-7580-12589878082339_thumb.jpg

Id be more than happy to contribute to a "65033 replacement for repton club" anyone care to start it?

I remember quite a few years ago, that some of our NELPG commitee went over to Beamish at their request to have a look round the engine with a view to taking it on for repair. They came back and said `its in a very poor state`. We decided we had enough to do with 60532 at the time . Shame, I hope it does come back to life !

Yes I will be over at Blyth on Saturday, probably first thing until after lunch. Perhaps we should have a meeting point ?.

Regards

Ian

Hi

Just found this thread. Intrests are North East Diesels (Late blue to late sectorisation around Cambois and Thornaby). I live in Whitley Bay and i'll be going to Blyth and Darlington shows. I'm currently messing about in the loft putting a layout (DCC) together and learning the ropes (only been back in the hobby 2 years) Not going to model anywhere inparticular but would like to renumber a couple of my 20's to Thornaby allocation and then of course there is the 37/5 which I would like to model at a later date.

Have look in my sig for my youtube page it has some vids of the layout so far.

Evening chaps

Just wondered how we have all been coping with the snow. I live in Wensleydale but luckly live on the main road (A684) which is being kept clear. Start work again in Harrogate on

Friday which I fear I'm going to have to cancel with more of the white stuff on the way!
