RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted April 17, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2011 A lazy day yesterday, so lazy I managed to miss a DRS top'n'tailed special through Chester Here's what I did get though Early morning at Hooton (06:30) Interesting signal aspect displayed, the signal was changing to red as I snapped it 67008 heads the Chester Model Railway Club special to Paignton I'd heard that the newly outshopped 158840 was working the 05:22, Holyhead - Birmingham service, so I drove over the Shotton as soon as the special had passed, fortunately (for me) there was disruption caused by mindless idiots putting rocks on the track near Chester, so things were running a bit late, and 840 was checked as it approached me, lucky as the light was poor. The up to the high level station for the steel... 66044 duly obliges I decided to stay at Shotton rather than zooming to Helsby for the coal, which only had 70011 on it anyway, and I've already photographed that plenty of times. The "Borderlands Expresses" were running, Bidston - Wrexham Central Yes, that is the gradient in front ! Wrexham Central - Bidston 66044 returns with the empties / loaded for South Wales, the sun had appeared by now and was, of course, on the wrong side A graphic demonstration of the bank .. Down to the low level to collect my fellow WFRM member, his steed arrives Due to the disruption mentioned above, services off the coast were sparse so a stop order was placed on the Holyhead - Birmingham to collect some rather irate passengers (they'd been waiting for a couple of hours ...) Down to Holywell Junction for the drag. A nice Arriva liveried 57315 on the head of a Virgin Soldier (390046) Almost "potted" by the Llandudno - Manchester Piccadilly hippo We then did a bit of work on Widnes and basically got bored wondering what to do, eventually decided to head to Chester and the "City Walls" shot, and realised (from the local "gen") that I'd not long missed the DRS 47s "Plain clothes" 57313 leads the Virgin Soldiers into Chester passing Roodee Junction, an incorrect name really, the signal box that once existed here was Crane Street and it sat at the end of the viaduct, the track at this time was 4 lines of plain track, this was abolished in the 1960s and when the tracks were cut back a junction was created, controlled by Chester No.6 and it eventually gained the Roodee name. The Holyhead bound Voyager (221112) passes the walls as does 175009 Followed by the timber, 66845 on 6Z37, Ribblehead - Chirk Kronospan And then off to the pub .. coachmann
Neat selection there. Shame you didnt get the right weather. As for the Arriva livery(s) I can't keep up with them. The nicest on the buses is Crosville green, which still looks attractive 2 years on. A shame it hasnt been tried on a DMU.
