sng7
The diorama should fit within a 20†x 11†footprint although it needn’t be that size or rectangular in shape. so does that mean the footprint could be 6.5" x 40" then?
Kenton
so does that mean the footprint could be 6.5" x 40" then? I can't see how that would fit inside 20" x 11" ! But if you put an axe through the middle of it, then you could enter both bits separately.
Andy Y
so does that mean the footprint could be 6.5" x 40" then? No, it means a maximum of 20" and a maximum of 11" in the appropriate dimensions.
Coombe Barton
So it must fit into a cuboid of 20" by 11" by 11" ? With the proviso that one of the directions of measure is up?
Andy Y
That's correct.
MisterPeter
Sounds awesome! Can't wait to start, just have to wait for an idea to come along...
90733
ooooo, sounds interesting, and gives me a reason to actually build something, might try and enter, have a idea, 009 here we go
Modelling Mike
This sounds like a great challenge, and as I face being layout-less in the coming months, gives me something to actually do over the summer. I know exactly what I'm going to do...something I've been dying to do for ages, but haven't had the impetus. Thanks to Andy and Model Rail for a very interesting challenge, and good luck to everyone who enters. Mike
Earl Bathurst
This challenge sounds interesting. Never done this before and am looking forward to having a go at the challenge. Now the fun bit trying to decide what to do? Silly question but the height of the layout cant be more than 11'' is that correct? Thanks:)
trisonic
Andy, If I do one over here am I going to have to ship it to England or will photographic "proof" be acceptable??? Best, Pete.

Coombe Barton
So we can't do this?
Andy Y
You can; I was just working on the assumption that Earl Bathurst was using the 20" as a horizontal measurement. I've got some ideas for the vertical format I'm trying to suppress.
Coombe Barton
I've got some ideas for the vertical format I'm trying to suppress. Strontian Quarries come to mind for a vertical format As does a cliff railway, a mine in section, a spiral in T gauge :)
Earl Bathurst
Thanks Andy. Im looking forward to the challenge. But got to decide what to do
stewartingram
What about a scenic diorama? I'm thinking of a transport cafe, somewhere to display some of those Oxfords & Classix? If necessary including a lorry with a rail-related load (stretching it a bit!) or maybe backing on to a railway line if need be?
Andy Y
If necessary including a lorry with a rail-related load (stretching it a bit!) or maybe backing on to a railway line if need be? Which will meet the criteria of being rail-related.
trisonic
Get your camera and a tape measure out! In the nicest possible way of course. Luckily you've just covered that! Best, Pete.

F-UnitMad
I think I too might have a go at this, not sure what yet though. Oh well... the rest of us might as well just give up now.....
Chris Nevard
I guess there's nothing stopping people from building the diorama for the competition to the maximum dimensions allowed, and then at a later stage adding a fiddle yard (if a suitable trackplan allows of course) after the judging - thus turning it into a working layout when the size no longer matters? Micro inglenook? I'm sadly not allow to enter this one
RMweb Gold RedgateModels Posted May 18, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 18, 2011 I'm sadly not allow to enter this one at least it gives everyone else a chance
MikeTrice
I'm sadly not allow to enter this one Shame. At the risk of giving you a big head I find your work truly inspirational so I would have been interested in seeing what you came up with.

RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 18, 2011 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 18, 2011 Oh well... the rest of us might as well just give up now..... That is soo not true, 20" x 11" is probably too a space for me...
