oztankonline
The Mary Valley Railway runs between Gympie and Imbil in SE Queensland, the loco is an ex Queensland Rail C17, this loco type was also used by the Commonwealth Railways to pull the Ghan Express between Port Augusta and Alice Springs in Central Australia. SRman
Nice photos there, Davo. For anyone who's interested, QR had a most peculiar classification system for their steam locos. A = two driven axles, B = 3 driven axles, C = 4 driven axles and D = a tank locomotive. The numbers were simply the cylinder diameter in inches. thus a C17 is a locomotive with four driven axles and 17" cylinder diameter. This system resulted in some really odd class names like B17?? and BB17?? - the extra "B" was to distinguish the later class from the earlier one. SRman
Which reminds me that I goofed in the description above - the B17?? and BB17?? should, of course, read B18?? and BB18??! Sorry about that! ?
