One of my first masts was this one For which I used sommerfield insulators. The first evolution of this came when Colin Craig kindly produced some proper 4mm scale insulatore for me followed a while after by my own etches for the mounting brackets and the registration arm assembly Meaning the end result looks like this Cheers Jim Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

My first welded rod portal was this one Built entirely from scratch using a jig to wind wire to the zig-zag shape. The first evolution of this was to etch it instead which was actually a step backwards as it looked too heavy. However a second etch was drawn up with much finer lines and this is the result. HealeyMills Posted July 27, 2011 Share Posted July 27, 2011 Hi Jim, Your OLE masts and portals are works of art. I couldn't help but wonder how you make the portal legs and associated cross members. Are they an etch that you fold up, or are they solid brass sections that you solder together? Please keep the OLE 'How I did this...' going as its very inspiring and so informative.
