Well ordered a few bits yesterday and this morning now have a set of clear bodied 20M coaches, 21M cleard bodied motor chassis and a pack of the MK1 Maroon coloured coach livery vinyl overlays from Electra Railway Graphics.

Excellent speedy service from Tgauge.co.uk

Mmm what to do with the 21M chassis?

I really like the idea of being able to buy clear bodied items to do with what we like, makes kit bashing a little more straight forward.

No way to shorten these second generation chassis's, too much mechanism in there.

Now if you can get hold of the Class 103 first generation locos you can shorten that!

The adjustable chassis is non-motorised purely for adapting for coaches wagons etc.

Oh and Ian, does there seem to be much scope for shortening that 21m motorised chassis?

edit: ah, adjustable chassis forthcoming it seems.

Hi Adam, thanks for joining us!

The vinyls look great as they are!

Any chance you could do some more red/white for Tgauge as he has sold out!

Any chance of a Class 67 type of overlay, don't know if thats possible or not though.

I just wish the cutting machine could get fine enough to do the windows in T - alas, not yet...

could coach sides be printed onto a transparent medium and the windows left clear?

Yes but you either need a high end digital print or screen printing. High end digital print is doable IFF you can find a printer willing to do odd sheets, which so far I haven't.

Adam - you can cut out the main window areas and fake the drop lights which is a start

We might start looking at doing a couple of etched EMU kits to see if they would be popular. I am absolutely blown away by the T gauge.co.uk deltic. Bloody amazing. I was thinking about either doing an EPB or a 501 to start with, or even a 302. All nice angled fronts, none of those awkward curves or gangways!

The big problems I see are the width - the plastic moulded units are too wide as is the chassis really even at the bogus 1:450 scale, and the bogies. I've tried several techniques to make new bogies but no success yet.

On the bright side its much easier to do roof vents in T scale than N

I'm not sure etched is as useful as it might be - I etched a Siphon in T scale in 1 thou stainless overlays + 2 thou main but while you can etch it you can't paint it and you can't actually see all the relief more than about 6 inches away !

Etched can certainly do more accurate holes than vinyl cutting or laser (even laser is like 0.5mm which is enormous in T) but the fancy layering, depth of panelled coaches and the like doesn't seem to work in T in a way you can see - at least not for me anyway.

I'd love to be able to do that but being able to print white needs fairly specialist equipment. On the bright side the printers I talked to can also do things like excellent colour matches and print 'hard' colours like BR(S) green and Network Snail sunshine yellow, on the negative side I've not found one who was willing to do small numbers yet.

(And 100 identical A4 sheets of carriage sides in T scale is 10,000 coaches or so)

by "small numbers" I meant low volume, not coach numbers. I don't think those will matter in T 8)

Lol, sorry, mind elsewhere and got the wrong end of that one!

Still, don't underestimate the rivet counters.....!!
