Large Logo Images

To support the rather text-heavy thread on Large Logo variations, I thought we'd have a thread of images.

First up, the positioning of the Standard digits:

47569 displays the Springburn variant with the squared-off window surrounds and curved "7"s. This loco was also treated to black window surrounds on the cab doors and a red bufferbeam.

47828, seen here at Reading on 27th May 1990. As 47629, it was an early repaint into the standard version of Large Logo (minus the orange strip). Once they had slapped the extra fuel tanks underneath it, it became one of the 47/8 oddities. The body section where the numbers were was repainted from top to bottom, the black window surrounds were reduced to just black window frames and the new numbers appeared in black below the drivers window on each side. The numbers were the same size as those used on Railfreight liveried locos.

Here are a couple of mine.

47617 and 593 have the Eastfield paint job with as discussed slightly smaller numbers and black window surrounds going over the doors.

47467 and 47550 with blue roof sligthly smaller numbers. Were these painted at Inverness?

Another Inverness loco at Bournemouth  47604

Hope they are of use.

Cheers Peter.

Fantastic stuff there. Interesting to see a shot of '604 before the black headcode panels were added. Yet another one to add to the ever growing list...

I've been delving even further into this subject and I think the approach needs to be a little more organised. I'm going to try and pull all the info together into a single post/thread and then make any adjustments as I go along.

Hi Peter

Rooves painted/left blue on L/L repainted 47's (and a few 37's) were a trademark of Inverness depot repaints during the 80's. As you will also notice, blue rooved L/L 47's mainly carried Stags, although some may have been replaced with "Dogs" on reallocation etc

Regards

Ken

Look at that, just lovely. Is it just me or does it look like it has marker discs at this end when it should have had (surely) sealed beam markers... any chance of a hi-res version?

Taken some time later ? after being named WRVS, but clearly shows standard sealed beams fitted at No 2 end.

As the topic has re-emerged

Some shots of 47550. It had a fairly rapid repaint from Scottie to Stag

Nice pic Cav, Some 47/4s did get really grubby when they started to loose their passenger work and get used on freight.

Always nice to see some of your pics Derek. 47550 looks great, that roof really does look grey.

Cheers Peter.

No date - but likely late 80's early 90's The other side of 47 550 - the numbers look a bit less "wonky"  Roof looks Blue here, was probably left Blue when first painted L/L at IS, but possibly may have been changed to grey at a later works visit ?

Hi,can someone enlighten me with the differing fuel tanks?

I have 3 Farish class 47's.One is 47035,47404 and 47535.The first two have solid fuel tanks but 47535 has a gap in the middle. My reason for the enquiry is that at the moment I am doing a sound conversion on 47035 which has solid fuel tank mouldings whereby the speaker can, with a little bit of surgery,be fitted in the tanks. On 47535 the fuel tank moulding is different.I would like to install the speaker in the tanks but the inly way I can see thus being feasible is by swapping the tank to the same design as the other two.I'm not looking for advice as to where else to fit the speaker, just as to why the fuel tanks differ in appearance and use.

Your help would then determine what I choose to do with mine.

Thanks

Pete

I came across this thread only recently. These are Dad's large logo 47s. The quality is quite variable. Dad never really got on with a. diesels & b. colour photography!

These and most of the rest of Dad's 47s photos can be seen at http://www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/album/871204/@/page:3:18 I am at present trying to round up more from his albums.

There are two class 47 groups on ipernity at http://www.ipernity.com/group/319799  and http://www.ipernity.com/group/329575

That second one certainly looks like 47341, but I never realised it was one of the handful of freight ones to make it into Large Logo Blue livery. Fantastic find!!

I don't suppose Dad kept the same tabs on the diesel liveries as he did on steam locos' vital stats. So he probably wouldn't have noticed the significance.

Judging by his loco spotting logs there was a steady stream of 47s back and forth through Didcot and Oxford, where he lived.

I am glad one of his photos was of particular interest to you, Gordon.
