COMM-RAIL

7th-8th-9th DECEMBER 2012

MODEL RAILWAY EXHIBITION

Poynton Youth and Community Centre, 107 Park Lane, Poynton, Stockport, Cheshire SK121RB

Information for visitors to COMM-RAIL 2012

Following on from last years opening success, we are confident that the long awaited move to the Pre-Christmas date will prove a further success for all. We have increased the size of the show by around 25% and more than doubled the number of exhibits. Once again several of the layouts are being shown for the first time ever and we have some which have been rarely seen or never exhibited in the North West before.

We are proud to announce the return of all three main traders (Squires model and Craft tools, Cheltenham model centre and DC Kits) alongside some specialist traders.

Those travelling from the north are advised to avoid using the A6 between Stockport and Hazel Grove- the A34 from M60 is a better way into Poynton. From the south via A34 or A523 is no problem. All roads works in Poynton are now completed!

The public open dates and times

Friday 7th 5.00pm to 9.30pm

Saturday 8th 10.00am to 5.00pm

Sunday 9th 10.30am to 4.30pm

(please note we do not open until 10.30am on Sunday)

TRAVEL

For anyone considering public transport to Poynton, Northern Rail provide an hourly service between Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent on weekdays and Saturdays. Services on Sundays are pitiful with one service in the morning another over lunch time, one mid afternoon and early evening only.

Full details here: http://www.northernrail.org/pdfs/timetables/20120514/19.pdf

Poynton Railway Station is just under a mile from the show venue, Poynton Youth and Community Centre

There is a bus service that runs from Poynton railway station to the centre of Poynton (Third of a mile to show venue) but that is limited and only of partial use to visitors on Saturday.

Details here: http://www.stagecoachbus.com/PdfUploads/Timetable_23510_390.pdf

The more regular bus service is between Stockport and Macclesfield.

Details here for the Stockport to Poynton service: http://www.bakerbus.com/downloads/bus_routes/f74a65559d8932b50df18ef53616ff6c.pdf

The 391 service will drop off/pick up just outside the show venue.

Here for the continuation to/from Macclesfield: http://www.bakerbus.com/downloads/bus_routes/bccfb7edaa94baa0d45d7ad999c477bf.pdf

There is now no Sunday service even though the bakerbus timetables still shows it as operating.

If you are coming by car then there is limited parking at the show venue, if it is full (we hope it will be!!) a large car park is behind Waitrose on Park Lane a few yards before the show venue if you are heading from the centre of Poynton/A523. Follow signs from venue.

Visitors who came to last years show will be pleased to hear that the road works have finished!

CATERING

Hot and cold beverages are available alongside a range of fresh sandwiches, crisps, cakes and chocolates. The public bar will be open from 6pm to 9pm Friday and from 12 am to 4.30pm Saturday and 12 am to 3.30pm Sunday and stocks an impressive array of bottled beers, lagers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

ASSISTANCE

We pride ourselves on being a happy show run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts- Please report any issues with parking, access, wobbly barriers or the public to the Pay Desk. The site has full disabled access and some disabled only parking spaces. Parking on the site is free; surplus parking is available 100m down the road behind Waitrose (follow signs from venue).

Thank you and we hope you have an enjoyable visit to Comm-Rail 2012.

G'day Mark,

Good line up so far, will be looking forward to seeing the confirmations appear on this link.

Just to let everyone know who's looking on here, my EM modelling demo will comprise of all things Eastfield related in Large logo blue with Scottish terriers on the side, circa 1988.........plus details of the forthcoming layout plans that our group has in the pipeline - which may well include a board or two from the very next build that we are working on ( it revolves around a certain Scottish capitals' terminus station.......), but I will confirm this over the next few months, depending on how much time I get in the shed.

If any RMwebbers are planning to attend the Trains4U weekend in September this year, I will be there with the other lads operating Runswick Leamside as usual, so you may be able to ask me in person how our new layout is coming along.

Keep up the good work Mark, see ya soon,

Andy

On the countdown to Comm-rail now and I'm really looking forward to this show for a variety of reasons.

Quality modellers, top notch trade support, a bar that serves good beer and its a Christmas show!

On a personal front, I'm just in the middle of knocking a display stand up for stock to sit on, at this show, which I am demoing at.

I will be exhibiting various items of stock that I have already completed for 'Queen St EM' - which will be my first venture into EM modelling and will be our version of Glasgow Queen St in 1988. This layout itself is a testbed for a far bigger and more senically spectacular layout that is in the pipeline for the future, however, Queen st needs completing first!

There are photos on my gallery 'Detailed Diesels ' of Stock that I have already completed, including somewhere in the region of 10 of Eastfields 37/4 allocation.

Hot off the workbench for you all to see, ( with a bit of luck and a prevailing wind ) will be my first rake of coaches. Aimed at representing an Inverness - Queen St raft so typical of the late eighties, it comprises of 1x executive liveried airfix Mk2 D FO, 1x Bachmann Mk2a BSO in blue/grey with Scotrail Branding, 2x airfix MK2 D TSO's in Scotrail livery and 1x Southern Pride MK2 C in blue/grey with Scotrail branding.

All coaches have been stripped, detailed and resprayed with my own close coupling system and corridor connections. There is a fot of the 2D FO on my gallery site, so just got to finish the rest off and get some weathering on them!

If you can, come along to this event as it will be well worth the effort. Bags of Christmas atmosphere and a chance to get all your Christmas presents sorted with the big name traders that are going to be there,

Cheers

Andy

Andy,

The chap next to you has to go to a family doo on Sunday so you can have an extra 10ft Sunday if you'd like to increase you EM display... maybe a GQS baseboard or two?

We could keep the extra kit on site from Friday in the club-room if you like?

We wont be leaving til around seven on Sat either as we are having a relaxing drink in the bar before heading off to the Boar for the pies and more fine ale..so plenty of time to re-arrange things..

Space wont be such an issue next year as you know...as I've lots more to play with..although its filling fast!

cheers

Mark,

Thanks for the offer of the extra space.

A board is not going to be able to make an appearance, as there aren't any yet.......... However, I have lots of drawings, photos etc etc that could be used to fill that gap. Also, i am kind of hping that Jon Rawlinson will be wth me most of the weekend, so he could also use some of that space to do some whittling of his own - all Em and Scottish Diesel era related, same as me.

I understand if you would rather put something else there on Sunday, howver let me know for def and I can plan ahead with things to put in that 10 foot.

cheers

Tell me about it Mickey! :scratchhead: Don't think Ive been out of the shed for the last three days solid, in preparation..............

Anyway, the good news is that I'm pretty much at the stage where I wanted to be for this weekend and my first raft of coaches has now been virtually completed, so will be on display along with a variety of Locos and coaching stock in various stages of completion.

I'm also looking forward to catching up with Big Dave, Chris W and the other GQS '88 lads who are there with 'Wick End'.

Me and the Leamside lads always used to make a yearly sojourn to the Manchester show on a Friday night when it was at New Century Hall. There's just something about the atmosphere on a Friday night, maybe it was something to do with the Bar being open!

There's a bar at Comm Rail as well, which I can heartily recommend.

Any RMWebbers coming along, make yourselves known - I tend not to bite ( too hard!) :imsohappy:

cheers

Just whilst I am on here, I thought I'd just provide a quick Weather update, hot from the BBC breakfast News.

There is NO snow forecast for the weekend. Any wintry showers are exiting towards the South East, with the remainder of Friday being overcast with the odd rain shower.

The rest of the weekend is forecast as mainly cold and a bit windy ( like me ), with some rain showers blowing in on Sunday.

cheers
