Now I'm confused, because the only photos I have seen which show the stripe at the back of the recess depict models, not the prototype.

Geoff Endacott

A google search came up with quite a few images showing the stripe. This for example: http://www.davidheyscollection.com/00-0-a-dp-rowland-strathyre.jpg

Oh yes.

So if the model doesn't have a stripe, we need to add it - and then weather the model until the stripe can't be seen!

Sorted.

Geoff Endacott

And the await the numerous photos posted of your chosen prototype ex-works without the stripe? That sort of thing always seems to always happen...

New Hattons email has new batch of class 27s in various liveries, seem to be mostly renumbers of previous sold liveries(with addition of scotty dogs etc) i always trip up over exact wording of each livery so i will leave it for fellow posters to list the forthcoming releases

Website says scheduled between June-September 2019. Time to start saving some pennies.

Of the TOPS locos, there will be a 27/1, 3 27/0s; one each from ED, IS & HA

Interesting - shame Heljan are not doing a 27/2 also.......27 029 AFAIR never carried a "Highland Rail" branded Stag, only the earlier smaller black Stag's head on a Yellow background...............

I have preordered 27012. But I should have boiler water tanks under it. Can anyone confirm the model will have them?

I'm sure Ben will be perusing this thread in due course.  TBH the graphics shown aboved are hardly error-free, boiler water tanks dropping off left, right and centre, and D5369's small yellow panels having spread all over both ends, for starters!

An interesting decision to produce 27 001 in green, 27s in green with TOPS numbers were very rare as the Scottish depots seemed to be quite enthusiastic for the BR all over blue. 27 001 was only in green TOPS numbered for a short time and was ‘heavily weathered’. I wonder if this is Heljan following Bachmann with they’re green TOPS numbered 20 and 25.

A 27/2 would require re-tooling the moulds for what was a small specialist sub-group which in their E&G days were rarely seen anywhere else and post E&G were withdrawal prone and became part of the 27/0 non boilered fleet. Anyone wanting to model a 27/2 then Shawplan produce the grills.

27 012 is a definite for me and the other blue TOPS will depend on what my credit card can sustain/big lottery win.

Great time to be a Scottish railway modeller.

Thank you Heljan.

Brian.

£110 a pop seems a great price though........

Wasn’t that long go, there were bowls of collective anguish as we approached the physiological price point of a £100 a loco....

Now it seems like a bargain! Lol....

Another pair of 27’s ordered.... that should finish my BRCW type 2’s!

27012 was definately boilered so should have the boiler water tanks underneath.

regarding the 27/2s, in addition to the bodyside louvres for the ETH genny in the old boiler compartment, and the ETH cables and sockets on the ends, I guess the boiler room roof was also modified with an exhaust for the Deutz diesel and no boiler exhaust, safety valves etc.

I guess these Heljan class 27s are simply "more of the same" with the "low relief" bogie bolsters, and what about the lighting ? is it still bulbs or LEDs ?  I agree they are a good price notwithstanding.

Should D5380 be green with small and not full yellow panels? Only seen images with this scheme

Of the two that were painted two tone green, one was SYPs and the other was full yellow panels - for a while at least.

It is my unconfirmed hunch that 5380 and 5382 were prepared to work the Royal Train on a particular job.  They both received Royal train communication circular blanking covers which is a giveaway for Royal Train working.  There was a Royal Train working along the Midland Mainline which I think may have changed locos at Leicester overnight and which headed up to somewhere in Yorkshire.  The Royal Party were supposed to fly back from the engagement but from what I remember the weather was pretty shocking and I think they returned by rail.

Never found proof that this pair worked this particular train but the odds are on, and I think it was diagrammed 2x1250hp boiler fitted type twos.
