pushpull33
Hi all. I have started to build the goods shed for Pine Road. I have decided to base it on the one that was at Lyme Regis, It's like no other goods shed i have ever seen. It originally had a siding on both sides with an end loading dock. Ok, so i haven't got that on my layout but will turn one side into a normal loading bank. The only thing that bothers me is that the building was a very dark brown, almost black looking, presumably after various coats of creosote (wooden structure). It looks awful and think it will distract from the rest of the layout. I am tempted to paint it in Southern Railways Green/Cream colour scheme. The dilemmas of modeling. As my layout is not an exact model of Lyme Regis i think i am aloud to get away with it LOL. Opinions please gratefully received. I never was any good at making decisions Here are some pics of the goods shed so far, as we know we all like lots of pics. They were taken using my phone, so don't expect miracles.
pushpull33
Hi all. Thought i would post an update on the goods shed. I decided to paint dark brown as Lyme Regis was. Yes i Have straightened the door handles up. And a couple of the progress on the layout.
pushpull33
Just a little update. The goods shed is pretty much finnished now so thought i would post some picks of it in situ. I have started on a couple of terraced houses now as i have a small blank corner to fill
bike2steam
Love the goods shed, try drybrushing a little yellowy green on the roof to represent the thin mossy lichen that tends to collect there, especially on corrugated roofs (refer to pics where possible) .
The Dorset Wanderer
Colin- look forward to seeing some of the buildings at our next meeting. Looks good Steve
pushpull33
Hi Biketosteam. Its funny you should say that. Here's a pic of the other end of the goods shed, tryed to make it look like leaves had fallen from the tree next to it. I will add some more detail to the roof. a good idea. I thought it looked a bit plain
pushpull33
Hi steve. Ummm, I cant really bring the buildings as they are sort of permanently attached to the layout. unless i brought the whole board. Yes, go on say it...don't think that would happen...lol . pushpull33
Hi all. That seemed a very short weekend. Well anyway, I had a spare corner on the layout and thought perhaps a couple of terraced houses would look good there. Trying to remember that they probably would have been there before the L&SWR came along to build their nice little branch line in Dorset. So begs the question, what would a typical Dorset terraced house look like. After a lot of searching, looking at old photos, visiting a couple of local villages, etc, i came up with this. Obviously not finished yet. I wish i hadn't used the Ratio fixings for the down pipe they are grossly huge. I think a 4MM scale builder would have a real job on lifting them up and fixing to the wall. Whats the verdict. Personally i think they look ok. There will be a couple more next door but that would be on the next board. I was thinking of perhaps a little thatch cottage or something.
Black Sheep
The down pipe looks like a stout cast iron pipe like we had on our first house, which was a small midlands terrace. had a similar pipe on a student house I lived in, used to climb up it to get into my housemate's room and surprise him. pushpull33
Good story there Black Sheep, I think back in the day they were all cast iron, long before someone invented plastic. Colin
The Dorset Wanderer
. Sections are OK- plenty of room. Steve
pushpull33
Just a small update. There is still a lot to do in the gardens of the houses but its coming along.
pushpull33
Just taken this one thought i would post one of the whole layout, well half of it actually, the other half has hardly been touched yet, i really must join the 2 halves together and get on with the rest. I need to sort out the backscene. need to go out with the camera and take a series of photos and see what we can come up with. it did use to be higher but just felt it over powered everything so i cut it down 4'
pushpull33
A quick update. I thought it was time i made a start on the second board, so i bolted the 2 halves together to line up the road way. I can at least say that phase 2 has begun. I have a road going over a river, so what to do? a good old classic stone bridge Perhaps. I have been round the local area to get some ideas, took lots of photos and just made a mock up to see what it would look like. comments greatly recieved:
ginger j
Any more progress pictures? It's been a while since anyone last posted on this thread. Nice scratch building on the goods shed & nice idea of the fallen leaves on the roof. Very little modelled on most layouts

Nice scratch building on the goods shed & nice idea of the fallen leaves on the roof. Very little modelled on most layouts I echo that, a post came up on the "content I follow" and I leapt to it hoping to find an update. Trust all is well and look forward to your return. tender
Hi Colin. Just come across this layout. Very nice modelling, I particularly like the goods shed and wonder what you used for the ship lap panelling. I've been looking for something like this for some time. Look forward to seeing more of phase two. Ray.

pushpull33
Hi Guys. It's high time for an update, so here goes. Looking towards Phase 2 The engine shed, The windows were a pain (excuse the pun) I took some better pictures with my camera only to find the files are to big to upload so these are from my phone camera but you get the idea. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted February 22, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 22, 2013 Lots to like here - but, yes, better pics might be a good idea, as your efforts deserve them! Don't forget on the top line of every page is Image Editor, with which you can reduce the size of your files to meet RMweb requirements.
