Strange livery transitions

There are a few more contenders for late survivors in all-green in the 'Early Diesels' thread a bit further down, the ScR 20 referenced there on John Grey Turner's site is a possible for going straight into blue. No idea what number it is though.

Several all-green 33s lasted into 1968, I'd think those would then have got BFYE

I though some 33s might be possiable contenders as the southern region were very sluggish with the yellow paint. I do know of some that went straight to GFY from all green, but I've not found any evidence of a jump to blue by searching on google.

just trying to think of where i've seen it, but there's a pic somewhere of an all green 33 on the front of a TC set, might be in the 'fleet survey' for types 1-3?

EDIT found it. p60 of BR fleet survey 4 types 1-3 (haresnape, batty/ian allan 1989). an un-i/d 33/0 on a waterloo-b'mouth near lymington jn. 30/3/67, train is TC stock. photo by john a.m. vaughan

Don't think I've encountered this style of yellow panel on a Peak before. D144:

or indeed serif lettering on a 40:

...which one though, the caption doesn't add up to me

D270 with serifed numbers in 1967: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6266258854/in/set-72157627818981963/

with new numbers in 1971, although it would seem the old ones were merely painted out and redone: http://www.flickr.com/photos/59835095@N02/6265728577/in/set-72157627818981963/

presumably the emblems were a slightly different size as they've been done too! (possibly official sticker vesion over a hand-painted one?)

Keefer,

it is possible that serif numbers were overpainted and the new ones applied on the patches. It is also possible that 270 had another repaint between the KGX photo and the 71 photo in Crewe works, as the bogies have had the oil pump mod done, there is slightly discoloured patch were the shed plate was (not seen on the KGX photo) this patch does not match the brighter patches around the number or Crowsfeet.

At least D82, D164 & D165 had similar yellow ends.

The 40 with serif numbers, is D206. Also D238, 240, 245 & 248 had them. Maybe others too.

Me and Muttlley have had hours of fun with this stuff.

Hows about;

At least 2 Class 20s with GFYE one end and GSYP the other (8005/70)

Green Deltic with arrows (9010)

Two blue class 11s

Two 2 tone green 27s

What we havenot so far unearthed is a good shot of a GFYE 45 (got loads of 44s and 46s)...or of 31294 green...

There are more than two. My photo collection includes the following.

D12040, D12047, D12062. (Note "D" prefix).

12052, 12063, 12069, 12071, 12082, 12083.

12081 and 12084 were reported in blue but I've no photographic evidence.

And one even more unusual, 12108 in green with double arrow.

12136 was reported the same but I've no photographic evidence.

Have now found a photo of 12136 and it did not have double arrow logos.

It did appear to have yellow coupling rods, (as did 12106).

D12040 and 12069 had red rods on blue livery whilst 12106 and 12121 had

tops style numbers on green.

I try where possible (ie Copyright issues and the quality of the shots allowing) to include as many shots as possible of interesting livery variants in either the Sixties Diesel & Electric Days Remembered series or the Looking back at series of books. But I do keep a large record of scans in the library to refer back too.

Keep 'em coming.
