After a long, well fought battle, I've finally caught 66720 on camera, this required an 06:00 start for a 200 mile trek, mostly across country, not perfect lighting unfortunately, but I was lucky as it was the only GBRF working off Tyne Dock and there were several other engines that could have stepped up to work it. Now I've broken the duck I will probably see it a lot more, such is the way these things work. (Hint to GBRF, I'll be out around Felixstowe next weekend)

Milford Junction, 28 January 2012

66720 on 4Y09, 11:16, Ferrybridge Power Station - Tyne Dock

HI DAS

Someone's graffiti a loco :O

Looking at Jon's posting on various groups sounds like you had a reasonable day

Keep at it

Tim

Quiet, and we missed a GBRF whilst moving to Knottingley :blackeye: , tried to beat it back to Milford but temporary lights thwarted us. Got 66419 on a coal - now a Freightliner but still in full DRS, managed to get to the road overbridge at the West end of the station, which is a new shot for me.

A 200 mile treck to see your chosen locos? You're a better man than I Gungerdin! As you say, the rainbow machine will probably turn up on your doorstep soon. Merfyn Jones of this parrish went all the way to Scotland one Saturday to see a particular Scottish Class 40 with square-cornered headcode boxes, but while he was travelling, the engine was plodding down the north Wales coast, it's days in Scotland behind it!

Did you manage a going-away shot to capture that spectacular livery with the sun over your shoulder?

Unfortunately this was the best I could get, it was travelling at speed and there is a road to cross to get the going away shot

Blimey, 200 miles each way. That rainbow livery looks quite good actually in your second shot. Even the combined efforts of Steve Knight, Murray Brown and myself could never have produced anything like the rainbow scheme for 'Rail' mag. Our Mr Blobby livery was perhaps the most spectacular but the BBC barred its publication at the final minute!

This was the third time I photographed it over the last few days.

22 February 2012.

Blackburn Lane, Knottingley.

66720 on 4N36, Drax - Tyne Dock empties

Taken from a crossing, behind the fence.

Going too fast in the poor conditions to freeze the plaque, sadly.
