Hi Rob,

47033's got a round plated boiler, along with a rectangular raised panel on the centre line of the roof, some good pics on Steve Jones' Flickr pages.

Other than that it's a definite do-able one, either with the Shawplan etches or dollop of chopped plasticard!

It's on my upcoming list, get those cheapy Rfd 47s while you can!! 47033/053/228/241/348 are my 2016 dream team project!! Buying the plates from Fox costs almost as much as a loco these days though haha!

Sorry it's a month late and a dollar short, I checked a list of flush front 47s that matched 47347 then searched for pictures in sector liveries, boiler ports and bufferbeams. AFAIK compatible locos for 347 are

47204 in Distribution

47210 in Construction (non standard flush end though)

47241 in Distribution

47258 in Distribution

47291 in Distribution

47328 in Construction

47379 in Petroleum

As previously mentioned 347 doesn't become 588 easily so I'm presuming that was a typo/brain fart, apologies if that's not the case

Cheers

Chris H

Hi mate, thanks for your reply. I'll try and summarise what j mean:

47 370 body + 47 347 underframe = 47 588 (I think - please confirm if I'm wrong)

47 347 body + 47 370 underframe = ???

Thanks

47370's body has the cowling cut of, it is not suitable for 47588 which as far as I can see retained it's cowling for the whole time it was numbered 588

Of the 7 candidates listed, 47379 is listed as having extra fuel tanks yet the photos I've seen don't look like the underframe of 47370, on the flip side 47258 isn't listed yet in photos it looks kind of similar to 47370, for the other five I wasn't certain one way or the other.

You mean the buffer beam cowling? We spotted. Damn I'm back to the drawing board!

Can you recommend ANY triple grey Class 47/4s that I could make from any combination of bodies/underframes from 47197, 47347 and 47370 please? I liked 588 because of the silver window surrounds so if there is one with silver window surrounds as well that would be a bonus.

Some more info which may help (or may not help!!)

47197 - Stone-Vapour Boiler - Early 90's it had a "Standard" Buffer Beam Cowling - by the Late 90's a "Crewe Cut" Buffer Beam

47347  - Universal Boiler - Seems to have retained it's Standard Buffer Beam Cowling throughout

47370 - Universal Boiler - Had a bump in the mid 90's and emerged from works with "Crewe Cut" Buffer Beam

None of the 47/4 in Trainload liveries had a Stone-Vapour Boiler but 47600 & 47615 had Clayton boilers which are quite similar roof-wise (depends how confident you are with modelling)

47600 retained it's cowling until it became 47744.

47615 retained it's cowling until it became 47747 (also has flush panel at No.1 end)

Thanks for your reply - I think I may be more confused now than before though!

Right so I think I'm going to renumber 47370 to 47033 as that seems to be a match? So then if I use 47197 to renumber are there any suitable 47/4s? Been looking at photos but tbh I think I'm more confused than ever. How is it a single loco has so many detail variations!
