Class 13 - anyone attempted one in 4mm?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As if I haven't got enough on my exhibition layout plate already, I'm looking into building a 4mm scale redundant Class 13 to sit in the siding. Basically I need two 08s, one with its cab chopped off (though I know it's not quite that simple). My layout is set in the late 80s - mid 90s, and is imagined to be somewhere near Doncaster. 13003 (the last of the three built) was scrapped at the BREL Doncaster Works in September 1986 (so it fits into my scene quite comfortably).

So, if anyone has built / attempted one before or has any useful info that the internet doesn't I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks.

Well everyone beat me to it

Seen it done

heard about the kits

but maybe if you've got good enough pictures you won't need a kit

Conversion LOOKS simple in fact I'm thinking of doing one but without motors or coupling rods to have in a freight consist as they were serviced at Donnie or Derby so could be found in trains being moved

Brian (Mozzer) also did a thread on building one - probably the first on RMWeb - I think it was on the old RMWeb

There is also one built in n around the forum somewhere

all come up with a search

But don't let that stop you doing another one.

I am converting one using x2 Bachmann locos. The article in rail express (mentioned in post 3) is useful, if you can get your hands on it.

My next step is the construction of the slave cab, but have been saved the trouble by RT Models.

You do have to be careful which 08s you use as door hinges and frame boxes will mess up the chances of making a prototypical example.

Cheers

Tom

Put D4500 into RMweb search, there are two threads on class 13s, Andy Siddall's 7mm kit build & my 4mm Hornby 08 conversion.

Cheers Phil.

Thanks for your comment Phil. The 7mm project thread has been most useful. I might just be able to do the conversion using plasticard.

Thanks,

Andy.

Thanks for uploading the pictures. I think I'm going to be using two second-hand Lima Class 08s rather than the Hornby ones.

Cheers,

Andy.
