steve1
Been finishing this off and taking a few pics in the sunshine. Here's a taster: The 02 delivering a sand wagon for unloading. It's a normal boxfile with 'fiddlestick' attached. The premise is a small (tiny) BR PW yard anytime from 1970s to now, dependant on stock used. steve Edited January 15 by steve1 Updated

steve1
Thanks Mike! Yes, it is DJH 02. It must be over 20 years old by now. The pickups had to be re-dome but otherwise it performs well. steve
cornamuse
Steve, Very nice work! There's a sense of spaciousness despite the ..well, lack of space! Love the little details like the speed signs propped up against the wall. Lovely. Mike very much agree with this. The backscene helps a lot to give it the space. nice work! Guest Jim Read
Hello Steve, I like the way you've resisted the temptation to fill it with track, as I would have done :-) It looks much better without it. Jim
steve1
Just found a couple more of this: Just to prove it can take big locos. steve
ginger j
Surely overkill to have a large loco on such a tiny layout? It practically fills the whole available on scene track ; ) Edited January 20, 2013 by ginger j
RMweb Premium Hippo Posted January 20, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 20, 2013 Brilliant. Looks great. Do you have any plans to extend it ? Owen

steve1
Hippo - I have had thoughts of a second boxfile but with other projects on the go, that idea is on a back burner now. Thanks for the kind comments chaps. steve
steve1
I've now found another empty boxfile and bought a short Y point... steve Edited August 25, 2013 by steve1
steve1
So I couldn't resist could I. Thank heavens for power tools! A jigsaw and an electric drill makes cutting the entries sooooo much easier. The idea is for the Y point to be laid at the middle exit and leaving the other one off to a 'fiddlestick'. The new box will then be linked to the existing Catte Lane by a short length of track that will include the power input. steve
Saddletank
Good stuff, been a while since there's been a proper boxfile on this sub forum!

steve1
Here's a couple of phots to show how I intend things to pan out: Like this, the layout produces three discrete areas, with the exit from the toe of the point on the operator's left. The plan is: Top section - An embankment with a lineside recess for a relay box or two. Middle section (Between the tracks) - A scrap yard. Bottom section - (Very) small tank farm plus office building. There will be something suitable to disguise the entry/exit points as tunnel mouth or bridge section. Both the scrappies and the tanks will be rail accessed. More updates as and when. steve
steve1
Who makes the digger in the other set of pictures, I assume it's a kit. Sorry for slow reply. It's not a kit, if I remember corectly it's a Wiking model. steve
steve1
The foam underlay is now glued down (PVA) and I've done a track test fit. The grey cross-piece has two functions, to indicate the roadway under which the line exits and to provide a brace to that side as I accidentally cut through the top edge when I didn't mean to! steve
steve1
The track has now been glued down and a test set up to 'prove' the concept and then linking the two boxfiles. Here are some pics of the set-up with a linking section incorporating a power input that enable operation of both sections of the layout. steve
steve1
Some more progress. Ground coverings, walling and a temporary placing of an office building. steve

steve1
Have been doing a bit more. Some concrete walling, not yet finished though: Low relief building: Overall view of current progress: Some of the 'oil' depot structures now in place: Again, apologies for picture quality. More work still to be done! steve
