"Shunting locomotives in the diesel age"
by
Ray King
ISBN 978-0-955454-36-3
£10.50

Have seen this book on shelves before, only ever glanced briefly as to be honest I never thought it worth the cover price.

Yesterday I found several copies on sale in Bath at £4.99 so I cracked and bought some reading material for the short journey home.

Without wishing to sound over the top, I am sorry to say I have never found so many mistakes between the covers of one book, be they factual, grammatical or geographical; most of which could have been eliminated if a proof reader had been involved.
e.g.
I thought the Leicester scrap dealer was Vic Berry not "Vic Burry" sic.
.
Most humourous is a shot of a cut-down Cl.08 hauling a rake of HEA hoppers along the BPGV line and negotiating a level crossing. In the background is a shop with a lady apparently cleaning the display window, whilst above the shop windows the sign proclaims "FFERYLLFA PHARMACY" and the caption states the photo shows the train at "Fferylifa level crossing" - it's not the spelling I chuckled at, but 'fferyllfa' is the Welsh word for pharmacy !
