GeorgeT's (7mm Workbench) TPO

If it runs backwards either swap a Grey / Orange over, or the Black / Red.

There is a setting in NMRA-compliant decoders (i.e. the vast majority of them) to reverse the direction of operation to make it run "the other way" if it runs backwards when first wired up.

I usually just wire up the red/back and orange/grey to either side of the chassis/motor, then flip the decoder setting if the loco runs backwards. This setting is permanent for that loco/decoder (unless you reprogram it).

The decoder setting is CV #29, bit 0. Some DCC controllers know about this setting and offer a more user-friendly way of changing it, like my NCE PowerCab:

It saves having to build and wire up the loco to the point where it can run on a bit of track, then disconnect and reconnect wires.

I think there all the same, my Gaugemaster Prodigy and ACE Sig naTarck is, but George doesn't do technical bits in DCC so it's simpler for him to reverse the wires. With 8 Pin Plugs, you simply turn them around for quickness and ease.

Well it seems that there are more bits missing from the Billington D3 kit than l thought, l have just had to make new tank sides as the ones in the kit were badly formed, also l have searched the web for some photos to help but there are not that many and the ones that are there are not much help...

Spent some time on the D3 and very pleased with the progress, still looking for some decent photos of the loco but l have not found any of real help most are of side views so there is a bit of guess work with some of the details, still its fun....

That D3 is coming along at a fair rate of knots. Looks excellent!

Thank's Andy, l am really enjoying the D3 build as l have had to do much more scratch building  than l first thought, the main problem is there were no instructions just an old photo, and most of the photos off the web are the same, no one thought to take a picture of the top of the loco etc etc, so a little guess work is required...

That rivet punch looks tasty.

One of the best tools l have ever bought Ray, from GW models, does 4mm and 7mm rivets in brass and a punch for half etched rivets as well.

Got a bit bored with loco building today so l thought l would have a go at something different and started to build the station for my new layout l've been thinking of building, just a small terminus with some goods traffic etc etc, l bought the kit a while back thinking it was like the super quick ones but l was wrong the building is printed on very thin card and none of the kit is ready punched so you have to cut out everything and laminate it onto thicker card (wish l had not started it) l have added lots of support wherever l can should be nice and solid, anyway l have started so l will finish it ?...(as they say)...
