Bachmann 158 juddering etc

Recommended Posts

I have recently had a problems with my Bachmann OO 158. It was a splendid runner but suddenly it has become very unreliable and stalls on clean track. To remedy this I ran new wires into the dummy car and have soldered them to the motor. This immediately improved the running for a short while but now the 158 is slowing and stalling on clean straight track. Other locos are not affected on the same stretch.

Is it the motor? Has anyone else had the same problem?

It could be that the pickups are dirty or failing to make contact with the wheels. A way to check this is to have a power supply on 2 probes that you can touch onto each wheel in turn. This could alco be tuched onto the main circuit board where the power from the track comes in.

The other test to try is if you have a multimeter do a resistance/continuity check between each wheel and the power from track on the main board.
