Nick_Burman
The wagons all run with Instanter or 3 links, although in rality they would be screw links, model form doesn't permit that as not enough length in Smiths screw links. Use Weinert screw couplers instead. They have the right length. Not cheap tho' - 7€ the pair. Cheers NB

Cheers NB I am struggling to find any Nick. The reality is the the (small scale sized) hooks on the locos will lie with links downwards and unprototypically the links from the wagons will be hooked onto the locos. Works in all our OO set ups and should here (though I can hear some choice Portuguese swear words coming!!)

gridwatcher
Latest update from Newcastle. The cement (bagged and powder) and grain terminals are complete and are shown in these pictures. Cement is flat wagons for palleted bags and grey/yellow tank for powder. Grain is yellow bogie and 4 wheeld varieties. We are in Newcastle this weekend putting it all together and testing. After that some fine tuning and then we should be ready for RailEx North East, which is last weekend in July Edited June 15, 2017 by gridwatcher

gridwatcher
So we managed it. Joined all the bits up and fired it all up,boards, legs, DCC, diode matrices and all and you know what? Everything worked! Lighting needs a bit of tweaking on show Friday 28th July but we are delighted. The lights on the locos give the game away. The weather in Newcastle was nearly as hot as Lisbon too but you know what those canny Geordie lasses didn't hold back and it was tops off before breakfast!!
158722
Glad to hear all the preparation work has been going well... Even better when I'm flying in the day before the show, not leaving much time for crew training.
gridwatcher
Preparation works are underway for transportation and the wagon boxes have been fettled for specific purposes. The brass sand wagons are also getting some attention. So answers on a post card as to what is going on in picture two??

gridwatcher
Great work as always. In answer to the question - creating removable wagon loads? Ed Yes it is. The cling film creates a load that fits the space but doesn't damage these brass wagons that are worth €300 a pop!! The Metal plate is (I think) a car tyre balance weight) that is the magnetic portion of the load Edited July 5, 2017 by gridwatcher

gridwatcher
Great to meet many of you in person at RailEx NE North Shields and we were delighted with how well the layout ran and the kind words from punters about the way it looked. Looks like we have had a successful debut and that our next item will be a 'big ticket' event in the North! (Will advise when confirmed) Special thanks to Martin S and Vince who made long journeys especially to see us and thanks for starting Iain Munro's enthusiasm for all things CP Orange, Vince! Many thanks also again must go to Malcolm Donnelly for his exceptional scenic work and the fact that he stayed all weekend, smiled a lot and even operated a few trains speaks volumes!

ben racey
Evening all, Does anyone know if there's any 1400's out on the Douro at present? My sense from a search of the web is that there's no booked work, but the off chance of a working on an unpredicatable basis out of Porto? is that fair? A friend is heading over there next week, and is after any useful gen! Many thanks in advance! Richard.

gridwatcher
All the pieces are falling into place..... the same company that makes the red/white B600 coaches has announced the Alstom (Asti) and we hope it will be as noisy as it should be. gridwatcher
As we gear up Campo De Leste for the big appearance at Glasgow a few extra items are arriving in the fleet. SudExpress tanker.... (ex fuel, but used by CP to ferry emergency water around for fire services) and a Drasine, which runs (sort of) and will spend much of its time parked up I suspect? Hope to see some of you at the SECC Glasgow in late February where we will be partying hard! As I am sure many of you are aware this is a sort of spiritual homecoming for this new layout as the Scottish Diesel and Electric Group are behind it and the name (suggested by my good self) is actually Portuguese for Eastfield!
