For contemporary practice regarding road markings: http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/pdfs/2009r1r2/part3.pdf

I find the prohibition on using a single unbroken yellow line on a 2-way road to be interesting, as that is a very common practice in Canada. Basically it indicates the centre of the road with no defined pemission/prohibition on passing.

e.g. https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ll=44.516858,-76.57829&spn=0.000031,0.019205&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=44.516952,-76.578329&panoid=DxVpwlf-0KaQX4G-VJgKSQ&cbp=12,175.68,,0,-1.21

It hadn't occurred to me that it isn't (or isn't supposed to be) used in the USA.

Did you really want the whole layout thread to be “pinned” or just the roadmarkings PDF?

If the road markings then start a new thread on "US Roadmarkings”, include the PDF and I’ll pin that.

Cheers, Pete.

A new pinned thread would be good...

It might be a good idea to have a "Miscellaneous References" topic that would contain links to useful information likely to be ov value to modelers, especially those who can't just step out the door and gather data at first hand. A bit like the reference books/photo sites threads.
