A nice article on the City of Truro loco and a brief run down of models produced. the last paragraph hints at a forthcoming model to be released soon! Well, I have a friend who is a member of the Bluebell Railway and I remember him telling me that a model manufacturer was measuring the loco when it visited the railway back in 2006. That seems to tie in with an iminent release date. He would not tell me who the manufacturer was, but hinted that they were based closer to the Bluebell, rather than farther! This is all getting a bit speculative though. Think that sums it up pretty nicely, until an announcement is made its impossible to say which company is going to do it. Even more so as both have tie ins with the NRM that would result in an NRM release (Bachmann along the same lines as the Deltic prototype, and Hornby with their NRM branded line thats sold through usual channels.) Like Craig says, there are countless prototypes that have been measured up by Hornby et al that as yet havent been released (can think of a fair few modern wagons for a start!) As for City of Truro, I'd definitely rather see Hornby do it for the increased level of quality, but it would be interesting to see what Bachmann could come up with using their laser scanning rig... Don't forget that we had City of Truro on the GCR for a short while last year. Bachmann offices are in Barwell which is well within driving distance (as it is to The Battlefield Line..) being approx 30 miles at most. (We are also the location of the GCR 04 and had the LNWR Super D for a while too...) I am not aware though that anybody from Bachmann were at the GCR it. Takes speculation hat off... David Bigcheeseplant Posted December 1, 2009 Share Posted December 1, 2009 Interesting choice to model City of Truro, as the locos present condition and livery is only suitable for the preserved era. When built in 1903 with Indian red frames the loco had no top feed, no patched frames, shorter smoke box, no splasher sandboxes and a host of other differences. When it ceased working in 1930 the livery would have been plain green numbered 3717 and coupled to a 3500 gallon tender. Even when running in its first preserved form in 1957 the Indian red was more of an orange shade and the splasher sandboxes were painted red instead of the green it now carries. In fact the double lining the loco now carries is hardly correct as when built it would have had the standard lining orange, black, and orange. Dan Griffin Posted December 2, 2009 Share Posted December 2, 2009 what makes people think it will be announced with the 2010 range? when Bachmann announced deltic it wasnt on january the 1st. so if it is in the pipeline we may not hear about it until the middle of next year. in this day and age with the interweb and everything, embargo's dont always work, so announcing things mid year (Hornby's mk 3 d v t, bachmanns class 70) could be the start if a new trend towards spreading the announcements out and not doing it in one big press release. as for city of truro, would be great to have, and would people who bought a deltic from the nrm direct get 'first refusal' as it were? That said, I suspect that if they do go and offer first refusal to people who purchased the deltic, it would be to those who brought the expensive boxed version rather than to everyone who got one. Might I add the NRM also has an email list for people who bought deltics - this was also key in their research for deciding the next model, I'm led to believe. When I rang up two years ago to order my deltic, I asked if they knew what was next - and the locomotives measured up by Bachmann, according to the lovely voice on the other end, stated the Stirling Single (my personal preference), Black no.5000 and of course, City of Truro... ...which I will still buy - let's face it, an RTR CoT is not going to come around every year!
