chrisf
Mine arrived yeaterday. It seems that the communal hunger to know what it contains is less than for other publications. Newsdesk - the latest developments include Heljan's plans for O Gauge, weathered EDs from Kernow (Models, not Captain), an attempt to whip up enthusiasm for Rail Exclusive 47s and new items from Bachmann, Fox Transfers, C-Rail, Railtec and PH Designs. 'Spoons' old and new from Bachmann - there's no escape from the 50th anniversary of this familiar loco. Diesels in detail - pics and words about the 57/3 couplings with no clues of how to model them. Two pages covering the new Hornby 67, with an intriguing sub heading "bufferbeam niggles". If it keeps niggling it must be sent to bed with no supper. Previews of October's shows, leading with Folkestone and Manchester. Three more pages about the 47s, this time painting and detailing the Vi Trains version. Grahame Hedges reviews the Farish 20. Feature on Modelzone's limited editions. (Thinks: does anyone know how to use a paintbrush these days? Oh don't mind me, I just failed the audition for Grumpy Old Men) More reviews - Bachmann's SR 25T brake, revamped Hornby 92, more C-Rail containers and Kernow's (as above) ready-to-plant chinal clay dries. Leaving the best till last, Mark Tatlow aka Portchullin Tatty describes the signals he made for Elcot Road and returns next month to show how he made them work. If you read nothing else in the magazine, read this! Chris [who cannot press hard enough on some of the keys, it seems]
jonathan452
Was hoping for a review of the Blue/Grey Mk2d 'Air Cons', so as to see their opinion regarding the lack of tinted glazing on the R4216C TSO. Maybe next month? They gave the Class 67 a reasonble review (buffer beams aside). So as to tempt me when the EWS version is released. Interesting to see that the only ex Cargo 'D' coach to be returned to service so far is the RK, whose previous lack of avaliability was I believe instrumental in the companies final demise. One particularly annoying gremlin has persisted on the 'Unitary Authority' pages where the (Scotrail) Class 334 is described as a 'Desiro'. Are these units not part of the Juniper family? grahame
Got my copy recently, mainly to check out how my class 20 review had come out. I did supply some internal chassis pics of the class 20 but they obviously didn't make it so if anyone is interested here is one below. However, overall (for the whole mag not just the modelling section) I was a little disappointed. It didn't fill me with the usual awe and interest. Was that just me being a little out of sorts (having recently had a close family bereavement) or do others agree? G.
blueeighties
I used to buy the mag religiously, every month. Purchase it once in a blue moon now. For me there just seems to be a lack of depth to the articles these days, and a very distinct lack of blue era features. Not worth 4 quid a pop for me. Lee. Guest jim s-w
Was hoping for a review of the Blue/Grey Mk2d 'Air Cons', so as to see their opinion regarding the lack of tinted glazing on the R4216C TSO. Maybe next month? Id be surprised if a mag with a small modelling section would waste pages reviewing a 30 year old model with a new paint job. Besides what difference does in make to you what they think about the gazing colour? You either like it or you dont. Cheers Jim
RMweb Gold Revolution Ben Posted September 24, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2012 Hello all, Rail Express remains (as it has been for some time) the only magazine I pick up and buy without browsing because I am confident it will hit the spot. And it still does, by and large. There have been some recent disappointments (the dedicated wagon page seems to have become an occasional feature and I've discovered that actually you *can* have too many Deltic articles and covers) however I still think it's the best of the bunch. Grahame - thanks for posting the Class 20 chassis shot. cheers Ben A.
