Kernow Models D6xx Update

North British D6xx Warship OO Gauge Model progress

Unfortunately all models produced in China are taking ever longer to produce and it is getting increasingly difficult to forecast when models may be delivered. Research on these models is complete and work is underway to produce a master model from the drawings to then allow the tooling to be made. The driving cab has now been completed and work is moving on to the main body. Attached are some images of the original style driving cab to give an impression of how the model will look.

As previously advised the models will be produced by Dapol on our behalf using tools owned by Kernow Model Rail Centre. Each model will be a certified limited edition of 750 and will feature etched nameplates, working directional and cab lighting, 5-pole skew-wound motor with flywheels and be DCC Ready. We are still taking orders for these models which will be priced at £132.99 and the delivery date is unlikely to be before 2013 but we will keep our dedicated web page up to date with the latest information.

Still plenty of saving-up time which is always a good thing!

They used to test them on the Sou'West; that's all the excuse I need!

Dave.

I agree with Nidge. The driving-cab images whet the appetite for what is to come. Though I don't model the Western region, I like diesel hydraulics and I'm sorely tempted to order another Warship. Even at pushing £160, including the decoder, it should be a superb model!

So are you planning to run the Warship on the Dent P4 layout, John? Must admit, I'll be running my Warship(s) and the class 22(s) I plan to get, on KL... The S&C can temporarily transform into the Welsh Borders!!

Go on, order one. You know you want to!

No - because I have three ordered ;)

The wait will be worth it. Dapol has already proved their track record (pun intended) with the class 22 and Beattie well tanks. My hope is that once these locos arrive they sell well enough that a re-run is offered with livery / styling variations within the fairly limited range of possibilities and perhaps some of that fabulous weathering Kernow and Dapol have managed to get onto various wagons and the 22s.

Probably this update was on their newsletter because I asked Kernow to do that a couple of weeks ago.

Pity it took me to ask them quite bluntly [via email] to put this information on their newsletter when they should have done it without having a hefty nudge.

Regards, Keith.

And maybe it was on their newsletter because they had just received the information ? i.e exactly in the way that they have usually published updates when they receive them; they are usually very good in that respect judging by information has been passed on by them in the past.

I suspect delivery from Glasgow actually took place via the S&C, though I've never seen a photo. I do think trials took place down the G&SW as well, so who knows where they got to!!

The GSW was certainly a principal route for testing and delivering all varieties of NBL diesel, and I assume the WCML via Carstairs is also likely. I've not seen evidence of delivery over the S&C, but I have seen photos of Class 22/ D63XX at Hest Bank making their way down the WCML, and a Warship somewhere in Lancashire too.

Strange then that I emailed them on the Monday and it was in their newsletter on the Friday.,

I've just had a chat with the boss and I think it's fair to mention a couple of things:

a.) He had no idea, personally, you had emailed them on the Monday.

b.) On the Monday he did not have the specific information given out in the Friday's newsletter.

c.) The cab was only received on Friday the 28th

d.) A decision was then made to publicise the info via press release on here and the newsletter.

Kernow Models have always had a good reputation with many forum members and make good efforts to keep customers and our readers up to date with developments as soon as possible. So, your email and the result appear to be co-incidental and making loud noises make it disheartening for a commissioning body to hear something needlessly derogatory aired in public.
