Thurgoland tunnels: LNER + BR multi-dated keystones. Pennistone area: Dunford/Dunford bridge: Woodhead tunnel, Dunford end: Woodhead tunnel, Woodhead end: Woodhead: Track recovery equiptment. Woodhead substation. Crowden: Hadfield: Dinting: And finally, Guide bridge: Hope they are of interest.
62613
Brought tears to my eyes; particularly the ones of Guide Bridge. 'I am Ozymandias, king; look upon my works, ye mighty, and weep'
40 058
Brought tears to my eyes; particularly the ones of Guide Bridge. 'I am Ozymandias, king; look upon my works, ye mighty, and weep' Yes, such a shame. The destruction of this line was such a short sighted waste. Only in this country!! Red Devil
You know, you look at those and you think what an absolute and utter waste. There really was/are some halfwits in positions of authority in this country. Superb photos of an absolute travesty.
mophead
Fantastic photos I'm too young to remember the line, but I've heard many stories about the many hours my dad spent on trips to penistone, wath yard and guide bridge, to see an electrified railway close just seems like..... Madness to me Mophead
gridwatcher
Fabulous. What a loss. Spent a good time at Guide Bridge in summer 76/77 etc. Fantastic
LeeWL
BR made some unbelievably bad decisions but this has to be one of their very worst. I wonder how much they made from the sale of the tunnels.. Good riddance to BR. Lets hope it never returns. Will Woodhead ever see a train again... Fascinating but tragic and infuriating photos. Thanks for sharing them.
