RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted May 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 1, 2018 Hi guys, Many thanks for the posts and the likes etc. You have all been very patient. Martin's post above in part states that "the operation is going to be so much easier for you" well in truth I need to go on a training course as the fiddleyards are now much more complicated with scissor crossovers to deal with at both ends, I have had a few scratching the head moments already! Why do we put ourselves through it all eh? Hi Mike There should be a compulsory training program for all layout owners with new or much modified layouts. It wasn't my fault!
67A
You love it really Mike ,,,it stretches the old grey matter Which of the fifty shades would that be then? In the old set-up with the 4 track Morley: 1st was used for: Top half 'Up' ascending spiral through scenic section then top half of descending spiral. 2nd was used for: Bottom half 'Up' descending spiral through fiddleyard then bottom half ascending spiral 3rd & 4th respective 'Down' lines On the revised set-up: 1st is used for primarily 'Up' & 'Down' north fiddleyard and north end avoiding lines through 'Up' scenic section 2nd is used for south end 'Avoiding' lines continuation and 'Up & 'Down' south fiddleyard 3rd is used for 'Up & Down' south fiddleyard and south end 'Avoiding' lines 4th is used for 'Down scenic section & north fiddleyard Much more complicated due to both fiddleyard routes all being bi-directional which is completely different from before BUT much more interesting I predict! If your not confused now then come and operate while I watch haha
67A
Hi all Managed to make a start on the spill-way which sadly could not be featured on the old layout configuration due to proximity of Rise Hill tunnel, now the scenic section has been extended I'm really pleased to represent it albeit on a left hand curve rather than the correct right hand. Some general views of the changes so far. That's it for now guys.
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted May 7, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 7, 2018 Evening Mike. I'm hardly looking-in on the Forum at the moment and work on KL has come to a total halt. But I noticed you'd posted tonight and I thought I'd better see what you've done. Really great work, deserving of a wider audience than we get in the S&C section. Well done. Jeff Hi Jeff, The forum has been very quiet for some time and I'm as guilty as anyone else for failure to browse due in the main to the age old enemy TIME or the lack of it, however its nice to get a little interaction at times so thanks for looking in..................Oh! Come on get on with KL2 haha

Hi Andy, Ditto on the Derby meet, I'm glad at you were there to make up for a disappointing day as I found the show too foreign orientated for my taste, my mates were treated to an unexpected diversion to The Midland Railway on the way home. P.S. Eyes seem okay, feet still aching mate. Glad you are on the mend so keep taking it easy pal.
67A
Never really got much done over the weekend following my trip to Derby but by way of compensation here are a few shots taken at The Midland Railway Centre... I suppose I was far to busy trying to untangle myself from three link couplings.
67A
Hi all, Had a good day out yesterday firstly at the Manchester MRX show in the Transport Museum followed by a few hours at the East Lancs Railway where Class 37, 37109 and West Country 34092 'City of Wells' carried out their duties splendidly. Nice to get a fix! Today I did a bit of work on a few stock issues then had a short running session... 8F 48062 rumbles south with a coal working and passes Jinty 3F 47410 preparing to do some shunting. Here is the subject of the shunt move, the 3F has to collect the two ballast wagons, the box bobby is a bit slow with the outer home for the 8F. Just before the wheels stopped the 8F gets the 'right-away' now whats the whistling for! The Jinty is setting back to release the brake van. Next he draws forward then sets back into the refuge. Opposite view. Following coupling up the train draws forward onto the Down Main. Runs past then sets back to collect the brake van. Due to imminent arrival of a service train the ballast spoil is set-back into the refuge once again to await a path. Cont/... after tea! RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted May 20, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 20, 2018 Looks great, Mike. The photo of the signal box in your earlier post may come in handy. Keep "carrying the flag" for S&C layouts my friend. Jeff
RMweb Gold PeterBB Posted May 20, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 20, 2018 Mike, Wow, what great progress since last visited .. hadn't seen the chicken wire use for some years, and last used it over 30 years ago but it is cheap and effective in areas where leaning is not likely. Will hopefully visit more frequently after all it is a 'followed topic' but has not been showing as 'updated' for some time. Cheers, Peter
67A
Cont/.. The spoil train is secured in the refuge and the crew are off for a brew. Here is the reason for clearing the line! Metro-Cammell 2 car DMU slows for the station stop on a Skipton-Carlisle local. Passing the spoil working. I must be losing it, I fitted new destination boards but totally forgot to put in a crew!!! The DMU awaits the 'right-away'. The DMU accelerates under the spillway (which is not yet fully completed). Rise Hill tunnel beckons! 67A
And now for something completely different! With the close proximity of the entrance combined with the log burner I thought it wise to cover the main fiddleyard in order to reduce excessive dust build-up which has always been present in this the old garage area, so with this in mind..... A couple of roller blinds suitably adapted provided the solution together with fiddleyard road numbering, bonus point beckons! That's it guys, hope you enjoy.

As for the chicken wire, I had this roll knocking around for probably 20 years and never had a use until now, cheap and cheerful fix!

Yea it had both but the top feed near the chimney is the one around 64-67 The one with top feed to the firebox is pre 64. It caused bloody headache Lol. 67A
Hi all, Had a good day out at the 40's weekend on the East Lancs Rly, that's the 1940's not the Class 40's although.................. this may cause some confusion, eh-what! Apparently 'Witherslack Hall' failed due to severe loss of steam so WC 34092 'City of Wells', EE Type 4 (Class40) 40106 and Brush Type 4 (Class 47) D1501 plus the newly restored Cravens 2 car DMU had to fill in which was not to many visitors tastes, even heard of ladies commenting that there were no diesels during the war! I also believe the ELR shot themselves in the foot with the pricing policy of a single charge of £20 to travel, there was 5 of us so they got nothing from fares I'm afraid and it seemed to me a lot of other people thought the same as the trains were only about 25% loaded. However the highlight of the day for me was meeting one of the great 'Kelly's heroes' !!!! Edited May 27, 2018 by 67A

Andrew P
I've said many a time, that as nice as it may be to ride behind a Steam Engine, I normally fall asleep, so I'm happier at the Terminus just watching all the action, and soaking up the atmosphere. Great pics BTW Mike.
