RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted September 8, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 8, 2017 Feed the birds and what do you get, apart from fat birds. you get a source of metal railings. When you look at the pictures I hope it's clear the method I used for creating these railings, the only other tool I used was a dremmel type of tool to grind off surplus bits of wire. Next job up will be to paint the turntable and some small finishing touches. Must fly all the best Adrian.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted September 16, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2017 The turntable has been painted using some rattle cans, and then lightly sanded and scraped with a cut down emery board (courtesy of Mrs W Station who later enquired about it's whereabouts). A couple of small jobs to finish off the turntable, and then on to the brick based water tower and water softener. Some pictures of progress so far. All the best Adrian.

Very nice work, we have done similar for railings in 32mm scale, saves lots of soldering/work and it's neat too! Cracking build of the TT, proper modelling! RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted September 23, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2017 A couple of bits to finish the turntable have been done, I know the one at Ewer St was electrically operated, but I decided to make this vacuum operated based on a picture of the one at Stewarts Lane. So once more a rummage through Mrs W Stations peg bag produced the necessary wooden peg to make the cabinet and a bit of wire was utilised for the operating lever. The vacuum pipe was modified from the Dapol kit which I didn't use. The warning sign was printed off and fixed to a piece of I beam. Next on my list of things to do, apart from buying Mrs W Station some more pegs, is the surrounding ground to be covered with ash ballast, coal, puddles and crud, and the constuction of the water tower and water softener cylinder. Here are some pictures of progress so far. All the best Adrian.
Buckingham
Adrian I'm always impressed how you are able to turn 'cheap and cheerful' materials into a very effective representation of the real thing. The turntable is looking very good. All the best, Dave

sb67
Hi Adrian, I've a question. Cast your mind back to when you were making brambles, bushes etc, I was wondering which spray adhesive you use to stick the scatter on, I've been trying to use strong hold hairspray but it's not permanently sticking the scatter. Thanks. Steve.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted September 26, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 26, 2017 (edited) Hi Steve, thanks for your interest, I have found the relevant posts detailing my gardening activities. The spray adhesive used is from The Range and is used for fixing carpets down, page 15 post 372 and page 18 post 429 give more detail, all the best Adrian http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64587-westerham-ewer-stturntable-finished/page-15 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64587-westerham-ewer-stturntable-finished/page-18 Edited September 26, 2017 by westerhamstation

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted October 1, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 1, 2017 Pictures of the water tower at Ewer Street and water softener are proving to be pretty elusive, so it's down to the old imagination to provide the pictures for the build. I have a couple of clues to start me off I know the length of the water tower is 30ft, so scaling up the map of Ewer Street gives me the width of the water tower and the diameter of the water softener. The other picture that I have shows part of the water tower and the softener. The water tower will have brick walls with the water tank mounted on top and have a corrugated iron roof. The base will be made from mount board covered with brick paper (scalescenes dark brown brick). Some pictures of progress so far. All the best Adrian.

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted October 3, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2017 Cardboard and self adhesive label paper, plus the cog out of a clock, that should make a water tight tank for Ewer Street. Cardboard is 2mm greyboard which is something that I like as you can sand it and is a type of card that has no top layer of paper. Rivets are made with the cog onto self adhesive paper, the method was detailed a few posts back. Thank you all for your clicks and comments on other builds. Photos show progress so far. All the best and Tanks all. Adrian.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted October 7, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 7, 2017 Wriggly Tin or Corrugated Iron call it what you will. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corrugated_galvanised_iron Apologies for any missing photos in the following but the battery went flat in the camera half way through. Originally I was going to use plasticard corrugated sheet for the roof, but a discarded foil food tray proved to be a irresistible substitute and cheap to boot. It was given a light sand first to help any paint adhere, then taped over a scrap piece of corrugated plasticard, next using a wooden kebab skewer pressed firmly in the groove and starting from the centre and moving to the outer edge to avoid building up a bulge in the foil then back in the opposite direction the corrugations were built up. After this the sheet using scissors was cut up into scale 3ft x 12ft sheets and then gently curved between my fingers. a capping was produced in the same way. Each panel was fastened to the roof with very strong double sided tape and the capping superglued into place. A first coat of paint just to take the shine off will be worked on later. The light over the door was my usual sequin and bead method, I must admit that my Glam Rock outfit is now losing some of it's original sparkle with all these lights being made. All the best Adrian & T Rex.

RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted October 9, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 9, 2017 Just found this batch of photos from Westerham, while looking for something else. I don't know if you have seen them before. The Transport Treasury seems to have changed hands recently, but the previous owners put required photos on the associated Zenfolio sit within a couple of days, so it may be worth asking the question. sb67
More great work Adrian. I find your work really inspiring and love the updates to this thread, the water tower thread is quite handy as I've taken some photo's of one I'd like to build for my layout. Just need to work out where to start! Keep up the good work. Steve.

RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted October 13, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2017 A start is being made on the Water Softener Tower, this going to be a challenge for me as it's cylindrical and cone shaped. the structure will stand on a concrete block which doubles up as a block to stop locos crashing down into Ewer Street below, this will be backed by backed by a brick wall which has a white patch on it presumably as sight aid, the tower will sit on 4 i beams and the whole structure is connected to the water tower by access ladders. Materials that I will be using are 2mm grey cardboard, and some left over i beam from the turntable. The first item to make was the plinth out of card, next the brick wall with the white patch added in photoshop onto a sheet of brick paper, coping stones are thin card. Next the cylinder for the water, I did think about using the glue bottle cut down, but that would have given me problems later on when I came to paint it, that type of plastic doesn't take paint at all, instead the bottle was used as a former for the 2mm card which was dunked in water, blotted off and wrapped round the bottle to dry. Using a cone generating template which was on the internet the cone was made by finding the dia, the height and the dia of the bottom of the cone, a template was generated, this was used to cut out the cone shape, the same method was used as for the cylinder. I hope the pictures show method and result okay but please ask if they don't. All the best Adrian.
RMweb Gold westerhamstation Posted October 16, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2017 The water softener tower needs something to sit on, and a cylinder to complete the cone. Mrs W Station in her attempts to make the room that i am working in (the lounge) smell less like a paint and glue factory has recklessly purchased a room fragrance spray, and subtle wafts of spring time in sorrento now fill the room, combined with metpak and paint. The upside of all this has provided me with a cylinder of exactly the right dimensions in the form of the cap from the spray. so without further ado here are the results of my labours so far. All the best Adrian.
