Tim Horn
I've not seen this type of photography done much before, but with the onset of some of the newer DSLR cameras I've found it possible to "stop" moving trains at some stations. It opens up a new area of railway movements which you tend not to see. Is it worth it? I think so. . . Apologies for not including info on the trains, i've not had time to research what they are. Cheers Tim

Tim Horn
Hi Dave, I went for the 1DX in the end, for the useable higher ISO speed settings. Cheers Tim
A_S
not just the camera though - I presume you need a decent zoom lense with a wide apature and they don't come cheap!

Tim Horn
Dave, it's the Canon 1dx , but yours should cope almost as well I was using a bog standard 85mm F1.8 lens for most last night, but the Freightliner 66 going away shot was with the F5.6 lens, but ISO 51,200. Cheers Tim

ash39
I was thinking this myself recently, it does open up new possibilities for sure. Obviously though you're limited by your equipment and also how fast the train is going, stand at your local suburban station shooting 100mph express trains going by and you won't have much success! I have a 5D mk2, not as good as the 1-series Canons at high ISO but should be good enough to have a go at this, I'll post how I get on.
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 10, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 10, 2012 I went to Coulsdon South on Saturday morning to photo Tamgmere on an ECS to Three Bridges where it picked up for a trip to bath Xmas market. When i got there it was still way to dark so it was video mode on the camera.

That is a rather nice picture.

trisonic
Combining Street Running and Night (in the style of O. Winston Link - multiple flashes) this is one of the best I've seen in the last few years: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=377352&nseq=19&favsearch=1 Read the notes by the photographer.
