Any one fancy a crack at a T Gauge APT?

If so, reply to this thread, I have a link for you :). Been looking into a 3D print of an APT. This was originally intended as a OO project but shapeways wanted a lot to produce it so I shrunk it to T. The body would require finishing and a touch of undercarriage modification to take the chassis but if you fancy it, let me know.

Would look good with the HST

Hi looks like some fun and well suited to HST and T - layouts in the landscape!

Thanks

Robert

Thanks :). Well I've decided to bit the bullet and work up a prototype. I'm normally a OO'er but this is a project that has really gotten under my skin. Will post the results in a few weeks. I can already see the APT along side the HST in a shrunken scalescenes large station on my coffee table....

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I am seeking to secure some vinyls to cover the sides of the body shells. I have been in contact with a company and am waiting to hear back with regards to ordering. If you are feeling adventurous the body shells are still available on shapeways but will require a certain amount of modification to fit bogies etc. I'm afraid the upcoming release of my first book has prevented me from getting my teeth fully stuck into this but I will now. Especially as there is interest :).

Many thanks

I'm wondering how the articulation is going to work.  Do you have any thoughts on that - it strikes me as as something of a challenge.

Yes defiantly. It would test my prototyping skills alright :D. Although I already have a fair idea of how I am going to achieve it having looked at some of the bogie and coupling options available on the T - Gauge website.

Interesting start to the project but it seems a long way from being finished. What are you plans for completion? Have you ordered prototypes from Shapeways yet?

My main observation is that you've modelled all of the cars as completely solid. Do you have plans to open these up?

It's all hinging on those vinyls. Although I plan to order body shells on payday. As soon as they arrive I shall post pics. They're hollow so I should have little trouble attaching bogies. The beauty of shapeways is that I can use different materials. Initially I'll go for the cheap solid white one. But I could develop it further and go for transparent shells which would enable 'real' windows as apposed to printed ones. However long it takes I'll make sure this doesn't end up like its life sized predecessor ;)

Hi , Tried to order shells but Shapeways said not able to print - wall thickness trouble hits again. I was proposing to paint IC cream with black window stripe and add red and white lining stripes - I also have a lining pen which might well work.

Any futher thoughts on bogies as T.com now selling packs of wheelsets - and they are very small!

Thanks

Robert
