Tony Davis
Looking for inspiration to overcome modelling inertia (built the baseboard, then got stuck)I came across Jordan Foster's "Oldbury Basin" which I thought achievable (in 00) in a reasonable amount of time and within my modelling skills. Looking for more inspiration I came across this wonderful photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eagle50043/6709952289/ and looked for more info. I can't find any! Was Norton Barrow a place, or the name of a company? Was it in Bilston? Can anyone give me a pointer please. It would make a wonderful Inglenook layout and seems similar enough to Oldbury Basin, albeit without the basin, to stay with my original plan of using the scalescene model for the shed. thanks Tony
andyrush
J Norton & Sons siding? If so it was between Bradley & Moxley and Bilston at 138m 47ch on the down side. Earliest PSA traced dated 10.08.1939 and siding closed 22.03.1993
Tony Davis
Thanks, that must be it. BTW What does PSA stand for? Tony
Fat Controller
Thanks, that must be it. BTW What does PSA stand for? TonyPrivate Siding Agreement; it will also show the date this was issued. You'll often see another one, PSAT, giving the date the agreement ended, and the siding closed. Sometimes, there will be notes indicating when the siding changed hands. Tony Davis
Thanks again Brian, when I looked up PSA on the 'net it came up with "Prostate-specific antigen", and I knew that had to be wrong..................
Fat Controller
I do wonder if there had been a wheelbarrow manufacturer around there as well as the scrapyard; two of the UK's remaining ones are at Tipton and in the Walsall/Wolverhampton area. charliewolf
Hi Tony I worked for Barrow metals from 1977-1981. I have a couple of photos if they are of interest. Nortons handled the cut up remains of locos from Crewe Derby Doncaster and Swindon at this time and I am the proud owner of a flame cut 31013 Regards Ian

charliewolf
Hi again Tony When I worked for Norton Barrow, There were 3 sidings. It appears from the photo that the middle siding has been removed. The capacity of the sidings "looking left to right was............. Left siding 8 wagons (storage siding only no loading access) this siding was parallel to main line. Middle siding also 8 wagons and right hand siding (main siding for loading /un-loading 16 wagons This is 16 ton mineral wagons for reference. Incoming scrap traffic was mainly from the BREL works at this time but also regular wagon loads from British Leyland Longbridge works and outgoing was sent to BSC Tinsley Hope this helps further Regards Ian
