robmcg
Recently discovered rare archival photo below shows a clean Standard 5MT soon after construction at Derby, actually running in Kent with mid-1950s Maunsells in actual clean condition, clearly before the Southern Region of BR applied its customary and mandatory patina of rust and grime. The picture shows a London Bridge-Ramsgate service on a 1955 day in which erstwhile London landlord Rigsby would have breathed deep of the air, "Straight off the Urals!". Rob edit, forgot to add smokebox disc brackets..
robmcg
In the interests of balance, I present a similar engine when based at Nine Elms in 1959... in condition more like that remembered by those who saw the Standard 5MTs in the BR Southern Region days... seen at some imaginary place on the ex-LSWR main line to Salisbury, working a semi-fast with grace and aplomb... at least I would, but the sever reports an error... continually
robmcg
...and what a fine sight 73083 makes, soon to receive a full overhaul and then the name 'Pendragon' from a retired N15, with a semi-fast from Waterloo to Salisbury. Rob apologies to those who may have seen this or similar elsewhere
