Well I think that I've keep most of you guessing for too long, this is the prototype loco,

post-8920-0-11282000-1365970131.jpg

The reason that I've said that it's a prototype is that the etches are the first ones produced.

The etches for the frames.

What they look like when you cut them out,

post-8920-0-95905600-1365970265_thumb.jpg

After a bit of bending they start to look like this,

The origami continues and you end up thinking, what am I doing, but you end up with something like this,

The same from below,

As with all my frames I do want to make sure that all the axles are true.

Then it was on to the body work, well you can't say footplate, can you? Don't worry about any of the red crosses.

The first lot of folds in the "footplate"

This is one of the parts that says Ivor to me. The splasher's. In this photo. I have scored the fold line on the back, you can see that the mark is showing on the front face.

The first parts of the folding and bending done (the curved parts are done using a length of 1" bar).

The first splasher all formed to shape,

Looking at the fit of the splasher on the footplate.

When these are fitted the "footplate" will be a lot more ridged.

Hello all,

just a bit more of an update.

This is more about the build of the "cab"

The back plate

The back plate with the coal hole door in place, before bending to shape,

The same and formed to shape,

This etch is probable the hardest one to think about in that it has a lot of folds to make that are close to some half etches for the paint work. These two scans are showing the etch from both sides.

A photo of the etch just to show how big it is.

post-8920-0-85652400-1365979832_thumb.jpg

The first thing that I do is to scribe the half etch lines on the inside.

post-8920-0-42643200-1365979860_thumb.jpg

The next job is thinking about how to fold up the cab. This was how I went about it. The first fold.

Then it's the second one,

Hi Ozzyo,

I got the wheel arrangement right but the propulsion system was dragon and not diesel! Please say this is going to get reduced to 4mm scale too - its 2013s must have kit! Watch me build it and there being and announcement from Bachmann... This looks like a great deal of fun Ozzyo - well done mate!

All the best,

Castle

Hello all,

I don't know why I stopped my last post where I did, anyhow on with the build.

The third fold,

One of the few errors in the kit. The coloured part is meant to fit in to the vee cut out. It's not a big problem you just cut it off.

The boiler rolled up. When you roll the boiler make sure that you have the outside on the outside. Why I can hear you ask, well it's like this Pete has put two different sized tabs on the rear of the boiler, guess how I found out about them. Yes your right I rolled the boiler with the inside on the outside.

post-8920-0-88830500-1366015918_thumb.jpg

The smokebox front, this is off the first set of etches, on the second set, yes I'm building two Ivor's, the number of tags has been reduced. I have left the tags on until it's in place, to help set the boiler onto the very small half etched rebate around the edge.

Most of the following photos are of Ivor 1 the keen eyed among you may spot the mistake that I made on this build.

The boiler in place on the cab front.

post-8920-0-52908700-1366016109_thumb.jpg

Before I came to fit the cab to the footplate I modified it by adding these three cut-outs. Two to get at the buffers and the other one for the coupling.

The tanks. The red 'Rs' are showing Pete the half etched tags that want reducing in size. On the bottom one you can see that I have scored the fold lines on the inside.

Ivor 1 up and on his wheels, there's still some work to do, like the coupling rods, removing alternate spokes from the wheels, buffers, couplings etc.

post-8920-0-17647400-1366018974_thumb.jpg

This is where I made my big mistake, I thought that Pete had forgotten to remove the cab rear from the rest of the cab, so I cut it off. The line that I cut it off on was in fact the line for the paint lining.

Having got it this far, well you just have to don't you.

Looking at the chassis, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be fitted, fairly simply, with the basic "oval bearing" rocking axle compensation as used on Connoisseur's 0-4-0s.

Hello Castle,

it's not me you have to thank, I'm only the builder. It's Pete H. for having the guts? to go for a kit of this loco with all the costs that are involved. Copyright and all that sort of stuff. As for it being done in 4mm I don't know, but I know a man that will know.

That's very cute. Has Coldgunner placed his order yet?

Oh yes! Got myself in the queue some months ago as I've had regular dialogue with Pete about the kit.

Pete managed to get it licensed, which is great news. Ozzy, I think this needs a sound chip!
