Bachmann Deltics

Hi,

This is my first post on this website/forum.  So apologies if I haven't posted in the correct forum.

I'm not really sure if this should be posted under Class 55 Group or Bachmann Products.

Basically I am looking to purchase two new Bachmann Deltics;

9011 in two tone green (32-529B)

9005 in BR blue (32-531DC)

The blue one is DC fitted and comes with working lights.

The green one isn't DC fitted, but I'm not sure if lights are fitted or not.

Would I need to fit a 21 pin decoder to activate the lights if they are fitted?

I read an unsubstantiated comment on another website that Bachmann are going to stop making the class 55 deltic.

Has anyone else heard this rumour?

I only ask because if 9011 does not have on board lights, then I might wait for a future release of a green deltic with DC and lighting.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike.

All the recent Bachmann Deltics have lights - my 55008 (dating from 2008) and the more recent 9005 both have them, and these work on DC.

I think you meant DCC fitted, if you are referring to 9005 having an onboard decoder. The 55008 was a limited edition produced for the Deltic Preservation Society and is not DCC fitted.

Don't know why someone is saying Bachmann is going to stop making them, like you say unsubstantiated rumour. Especially as 9011 is a new release for 2013 and it's not even in the shops yet!

There are two basic versions, based on two chassis with subtle body alterations.

The initial version was a DCC ready (8 pin) without lights.

The later version (which most of the new ones now are) uses a DCC ready (21 pin) with lights. The body is altered on this to provide translucent train reporting panel and larger marker light housings (the right size) to accomodate the plastic optic for the lights.

If you see a chassis being sold seperately (as is common on ebay) the new one has more detailed (not necessarily correct) cabs with rear bulkheads and lights are visible (all the wires).

Early ones had a basic cab that is very similar (no sorry, it's idenitcal) to the one fitted in their early 37s. These early ones had marker light mouldings that were too small.

Any with lights will be 21-pin DCC ready; without they're all 8 pin (as was mine that formed the basis on the conversion illustrated in the sinature image below).

If I get another it'll probably be one with lights although by the time I've finished with it the advantages will probably be mostly lost.

It's not a bad model... but it's about time they updated it. Given the revised shape offered by the soon to be available Farish 55, it's easy to understand why some might think that they're planning to stop/replace/improve it. But, so far they haven't and I suspect the model will be around for quite a while. To make it perfect takes work... but then you have somethign pretty unique. Don't think I'll be doing 22 of them though.

on rails website 32-529B is shown as weathered but all other sites show it in pristine condition, is this a catalogue error?

Hattons showing it as weathered:

Re Bachmannn weathered Deltic 32-529B I purchased this because I had wanted a two tone Deltic without a yellow warning panel.

I'm disappointed by the weathering and would like to "de-weather" it.

Has anyone experience of attempting to remove/ reduce some of the weathering on this loco using Brasso or similar?

Also I am looking for a photo of a Deltic in this livery that looks in service but not totally care worn.

The photos I have seen all seem to show very clean early green Deltics.

I am presuming dirt would collect quite heavily on the roof,

Any dirt streaks down the sides and dirt on the noses would be cleaned / wiped off frequently leaving a disclourisation rather than grot.

Any tips would be welcome as I don't want to do a respray.

Thanks

R
