RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2018 I’ve managed to acquire a BT models dual door Leyland Atlantean. This is going to be used as a basis for a conversion into a MCW Metrobus. This was a right b*gg*r to dismantle due to the tight fit of the parts not helped by the glue. It’s currently in a jar of Super Strip. It won’t be an exact model but will have the overall look of a LT M bus.

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 5, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 5, 2018 A quick pic of the dismantled bus....I have a couple of options. If I reuse the 'flush' glazing it means I cant do much about the window sizes. If I re-glaze it either internally of cut windows to fit, I will be able to alter some of the windows to be nearer the size and shape they should be. The distinctive front screen is getting done come what may..... thoughts anyone?
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 6, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2018 The TPM models DMS conversion set has two sets of folding doors in it, a two part and a single leaf set. I used my two part ones on the DMS conversion and appear to have binned the single leaf set...fool. I wonder if anyone has a spare set of single leaf doors? RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 6, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 6, 2018 Well Grahame Hedges has come up trumps with the etched doors, excellent stuff. If you haven’t come across his model buildings do have a look, building London Bridge makes Olympia look like child’s play. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/115057-scratch-built-card-and-styrene-structures-based-on-real-buildings/ I’ve made a start on the Metrobus, not very pretty at the moment as it has bits of plasticard resizing windows and filler on all the edges to make it look squarer. Pictures to follow.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2018 Got dragged to the Supermarket today....one place I really loathe going to. However despite it being Aldi I found some cheap and highly drinkable beers. Black Sheep always reliable some Marstons Old Empire IPA...not tried that and the bonus of Dark Star Hophead from my home county. At £1.29 for 500ml bottles a good deal. Not much modelling this weekend! Well apart from the NGS meeting tomorrow I’m going to take the part built 4TC for a run. Needs propelling around the layout to see how it will run. Might need some weight in the DTS coaches. A couple of cheap Fleischmann wagons arrived today to be chassis for the next pair of ferry vans. These will replace a lot of older wagons I had acquired that unfortunately weren’t suitable to use. The chassis were made of a plastic that was very shiny and wouldn’t adhere with superglue.
RMweb Premium Steven B Posted June 8, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2018 Sometimes superglues need some help. Andy, remember at the last but one NGS-YAG meeting I was fitting Dapol Siphon chassis to Lima bodies? My attempts to move the coupling pocket failed with the glue I was using; I ended up using a combination of Loctite 770 (primer) and 406 (CA for plastics and rubbers). The primer and the more specialised CA worked wonders. Steven B.

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2018 Thanks Steven, yes I do remember them, thanks for the info about the glues. I have a 33/1 to give it a shove.....only the TBSK has had any real attention plus the FK have had most of the underframe boxes etc removed. Nothing has been put back on and the DTSs are still only TSOs.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2018 Some pictures of the Atlantean....sorry Metrobus! Not looking its best covered in filler on the edges to square it up a bit. The first lots of filler have now been sanded down and more added......
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 8, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) The etched bus doors arrived from London Bridge land today....measuring them, the apertures on the Atlantean are too big by about 1.5mm in height compared to the doors so some plasticard has been used to lower them. Here are some images to compare it against the Cars Workshop DMS. The glazing on the Atlantean is very thick so I'm still umming and arrring about re-glazing it completely. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 10, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2018 Some progress at yesterdays NGS YAG meeting. The Metrobus has had further work and whilst it took me an age to dismantle it, it took an Eon to put it back together and make sure everything fitted. I will need to check the door apertures are wide enough prior to painting. The body after a squirt of primer, one or two areas need attention, but otherwise not bad. The class 33/1 had a run out with the four cars for the 4TC, propelling at high speed. This was very successful but I think I will still weight the leading vehicles a bit. One thing it did show up was that the headcode on Crompton only illuminated in one direction and red blinds only........hopefully just a wire off somewhere.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 12, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 12, 2018 The Metrobus is nearly finished, I need to get a finer silver marker to do the window vents and some yellow paint for the front doors. All the painting has been completed and destination blinds and roundal added. Once it’s all reassembled I’ll need to add some adverts. Pictures to follow. A friend has sent me some underframe photos of the coaches on the Kernow 4TC for equipment positioning, I’ve asked for some more.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 12, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 12, 2018 The Metrobus after being sprayed red then masked up for the radiator grill, destination blinds etc. With all the lights and grills picked out and decals added.
RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 23, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2018 (edited) Yorkshire area NGS meeting today, for a change I took some US stuff to run, Kato F40s, step down coach, baggage car, Supeliners and MHC,s most of this hasn’t been run for about 5 years. Usual KATO faultless out of the box, the step down coach and baggage car had never been even been out of the box. Some more progress with the 4TC. Both TSOs for the DTS dismantled, extra door to the end compartments added, toilet windows filled in. Next job will be to mark up the cabside windows and cut them out. I may have a cunning plan with the cabs.......it’s called outsourcing! I’ll post some pictures of progress so far later this weekend. RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 26, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2018 I’m getting a bit behind with the picture postings.......later tonight honest! Sat in the garden with the two DTC/TSOs for the 4TC. First coach has had the small sidelights added and the side cab window, one one side so far. The cab window had to be restarted as the plastic used to fill the original toilet window pushed through when drilling out the new one. I’ve also dismantled the TFK and swopped the toilet windows for the correct style ( no vent ). No beer today at least while I’m modelling!

RMweb Premium acg5324 Posted June 26, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 26, 2018 (edited) Now to the 4TC End bay small sidelights cut out. Cab window partially cut out. The other side just shows the filled in toilet window. Coach reassembled, cab window yet to be finished. TBSK and TFK. The window on the opposite side of the TBSK is filled in and the toilet windows on the TFK have been changed. I have a cheap copy of Goulding EMU plans book on its way to help with equipment positioning etc plus some photos from a friend of the ends and underside of the Kernow 4TC.
