Just got the latest Rail Express mag thru the post (Dec 2013) with a surprise fresh new look!

Initial impressions are it appears very text heavy but with the usual nice pics, you could really lose yourself in this issue with so much info between the covers!

Cheers

James

The change is interesting with some nice structure to the mag ... very much similar to before ... but with a more organised feel to it; I've not managed to put my finger on it yet though. Picked up a copy from our local WHS on way home to prepare for some evening's reading when I'm billy no mates after I've found somewhere to eat - oh I do so love going away on business (not)... but I get some quiet time to read I suppose. The main thing, I think, is that the front "look" of the mag hasn't changed... and it's kept its identify (something that others have recently lost a little)... so all in all a good change... and one with plenty to read too.

Good job chaps!

Thanks :)

Glad it's gone down well, not that I have much to do with the actual page design/format but it's always a slight worry when things get a makeover! But I was very pleased when I got my copy through the post earlier this week. I think RX has always had a unique spot in the market covering various subjects but from a specific angle, and I think it'll stay that way.

The team will be at Warley both days so feel free to pop over and have a chat about the new look or just say hello.

Just finishing off a couple of new models for display now. . might need to break out the sunglasses for one of them  B)

Picked up a copy in my local village post office ###### newsagents. The 'new look' is more of a tidy-up and refresh rather than a radical makeover. But the result is fine. And the pics are still as great as ever. Plus the modelling section seems to be getting better and larger.

I notice that Gareth is back on the editorial staff list. Has he returned from Japan?

Edit: Grief. A dumb profanity checker seems to have censored the legitimate use of a word: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/

I think you're right Grahame... more of a refresh than an overhaul, but then it went through a change a few years ago.... it's a good format IMHO and I think it's just been tweaked to enhance what I think was already a good all-round "current" mag... produced with good material, references, photos and on good paper.

Maybe time to pick up a subs for this one as I seem to buy almost all of them

Thanks for the comments. As you say the aim is to keep the mag in it's current position in the market, as we feel it still holds a unique spot in modern D&E era modelling, coupled with news and retrospective features in the main magazine.

If anyone has any comments - either way - about what they like or want to see in Rail Express/Rail Express Modeller then please get in touch and let us know. After all, it's your magazine.

Gareth is still a contributor, but I hear he's now moving to Canada.

It has improved greatly over the last year, although I cannot comment on the format as I use the Zinio Downloads version.

The only comment I have is one that has been raised before. Any word on the talk of a Compendium of "Retrospectrums" or "Modellers Guides", last mentioned back in 2011
